The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has apologized to Nigerians over the sudden resignation of erstwhile Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh on last Thursday night and the attendant accusations and counter-accusations that have trailed the event. The NFF, in its first official statement since the saga posted to its website on Monday, assured Nigerians that it would not let the development affect the national male team’s preparation for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II Monday ordered the state Sharia Commission to liaise with office of the Assistant Inspector General of police, zone 1 to commence process of returning the 14 years old teenager, Ese Oruru allegedly abducted by one Yunusa to Kano state. The Emir’s order followed Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase’s revelation that the Emir of Kano’s Hajj trip is responsible for the delay in securing the release of 14-year-old Ese Oruru, who is being held captive in Kano State.

Barely 24 hours after the release of another list of 100 Boko Haram terror suspects, four men suspected to be members of the sect were arrested yesterday morning by youths of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) at the Maiduguri motor park. The suspects, according to Modu Bukar, a member of CJTF, were attempting to flee Maiduguri by bus before they were apprehended by the vigilant youths at about 7.35am. “These men who claimed to be travelling to the south are Boko Haram suspects, because their identities matched those on the list released by the military on Saturday, including the sect’s tattoo on their arms and backs,” Bukar said yesterday.

  Former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior Anastasia M. Daniel-Nwaobia, a deputy director in the ministry F. A. Aleyebami, one Mahmood Ahmadu (at large) and Drexel Global Technology Limited are to be arraigned before Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court Abuja today February 29th on an 11 count charge ranging from the abuse of procurement process and diversion of public funds.

Students of one of Nigeria’s oldest universities, Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, have expressed concern about increased cases of illness among students. A visit to the institution’s largest student hostel, Awolowo Hall, showed that many of the rooms had at least one student who had fallen ill. One of the rooms, which has 8 occupants, had five of them already fall ill this past week. An average of five students stay in a room in the hostel officially although the figure is often up to a dozen due to the shortage of student accommodation. The increased cases of illness has been attributed to the ‘harsh’ weather conditions while some students have attributed it to poor sanitary conditions of the hostels. Some students also alleged that they were given expired drugs at the institutions health centre when they visited after they fell ill.

Workers and patients at hospitals in Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State are now living in fear following series of attack on two of the hospitals in the community by suspected robbers. The hospitals separately between 10pm and 11.30pm of the fateful days collected some undisclosed amount of money from the nurses and other staff of the hospitals. According to the source, the hoodlums also forcefully collected some amount of money from the patients on admission while patients and nurses who had no money to give were mercilessly beaten. One of the victims on condition of anonymity said, ” the hoodlums were four in number, masked and they came to the hospitals on motorcycles.

  Three-year-old Darasimi Ogunwumi, who allegedly drank acid, seems to have been abandoned by the authorities of the school where Darasinmi was said to have taken the deadly substance, according to the mother. Mrs Toyin Ogunwumi told Sunday Vanguard, on Friday, that the authorities of Fahsal Children School, Ilupeju Estate, Idiroko, Ogun State had not visited her son since last November after he was admitted at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Lagos.

  The battle for the leadership of directors guild of Nigeria (DGN) has ended as a winner has emerged! Actor and movie producer, Fred Amata, as emerged the president of the Director’s Guild of Nigeria. The election took place in Asaba, Delta state this afternoon. The position had been occupied by Andy Amenechi, before Fred joined the race to battle popular director c*m producer, Lancelot Imasuen and Dickson Iroegbu winning in the end. Amata aspired for the position alongside Fidelix Duker in 2007. Duker eventually won the contest. In 2011, Amata contested again with Andy Amanechi, who also defeated him and succeeded Bond Emeruwa. This is the third time he will be contesting for this post. Congratulations to him.

According to reports, two farmers were allegedly shot dead in their farms by suspected Fulani herdsmen at Agogo, Ashanti region in Ghana by 4pm yesterday. One other person who was with the two, reportedly escaped death after he went to fetch water while others worked.

A small Abuja community is being plagued by a mysterious illness that has become a threat to both children and adults alike. Mysterious headache and stomach pains have killed 16 children and youths in Saburi 1, a village opposite Mopol Barracks along Kubwa expressway, Abuja. Saturday Vanguard on Thursday visited the palace of the Chief of the village, Alhaji Mohammed Yamawo who was said to have traveled out of Abuja for an urgent assignment. Speaking to Saturday Vanguard on the development, the Son of the village Chief, Alhaji Halidu Mohammed confirmed that 16 persons whose ages ranged between 10 and 25 years had been officially reported at the palace to have died within the last two weeks.

Former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has been re-appointed coach of the national team. Siasia got the big job back on Friday as replacement for his former colleague, Sunday Oliseh, who resigned. Siasia will work with respected tactician Salisu Yusuf, FIFA U-17 World Cup – winner Emmanuel Amuneke and Alloy Agu for the upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt. Recall that Siasia worked as Eagles’ Head Coach between December 2010 and October 2011, before his contract was terminated following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Amuneke led the Nigeria U-17 male to a fifth FIFA World Cup title in Chile in 2015. Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu were in the immediate past crew led by Oliseh.

Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that his ongoing false assets declaration trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) is the handiwork of powerful people who were unhappy with his emergence as Senate President.   Students of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic living at kings villa, Depolu,ojowo, Ijebu – Igbo were attacked last night with two injured and one shot dead. The deceased, identified as Oduntan Azeez was an NDII student of Business Administration of the institution. AAPOLY News gathered that the gunmen entered through the back door of the building and tried to rape a young lady but did not succeed.

  The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, told journalists yesterday that a total number of 1,589,175 candidates applied for the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and 201 out of them are blind while another 343 candidates are prison inmates. Ojerinde explained that Visually-impaired candidates are expected to take the examination at designated centres in all state capitals and the Federal Capital Territory, whiles inmates at the Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons will have access to computers. The examination would take place, tomorrow Saturday, 27th of February, 2016

  Daniel Dada Ayodele, a graduate of Psychology graduated with a 5.0 cumulative Grade Point Average and will be the best graduating student at the University’s 2014/2015 Convocation ceremony which holds next week. He is the first student in the school to graduate with a record 5.0 CGPA. Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Rahamon Bello disclosed this at a pre-convocation media briefing today February 24th. “A perfect score. It was a sad weekend in Ndubia Inyimaegu community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, following reports of the death of one Jacinta, who was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, James Uguru, over adultery. Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, ASP George Okafor, revealed that the suspect had angrily beaten his wife to stupor when the deceased stopped him from chasing after her alleged lover boy. The Lagos-based Uguru was said to have become suspicious of the wife’s alleged promiscuity following rumours making the rounds on the matter in the community whenever he visits home to see his family. … and the phone rang

  The founder of The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet TB Joshua, has donated the sum of N5million to Mr. Sunday Udoh, whose wife was shot dead by police in Lagos State last year. Prophet Joshua counseled Mr Udoh that he should be consoled in knowing his wife died after returning from church. He further encouraged him to continue worshiping God, adding that one should stay where God has placed him.
