At least 15 people were killed and dozens feared missing after torrential rains and landslides battered one of Indonesia’s outermost islands, the country's disaster officials have said.   Pictures provided by the national disaster mitigation agency (BNPB) on Monday March 6 showed mud and debris from the landslides had inundated houses near a cliff on the remote Serasan island while metals tore off roofs and fallen trees were visible. The remoteness of the village where the landslide struck in the Natuna region of Riau province, complicated rescue efforts, according to officials.   “We’ve been updated that 50 people were missing, 15 dead people were evacuated,” Natuna Search and Rescue Agency’s head Abdul Rahman told AFP, revising an earlier toll.   Riau Islands Disaster Mitigation Agency’s spokesperson Junainah added that with the communication network in the affected area between Borneo island and peninsular Malaysia cut off, it was hard to get updated info...

Will Smith is 'still remorseful' over slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars and has tried to make amends with the comedian but all attempts were 'unsuccessful.'    A source told PEOPLE that the Oscar-winning  King Richard  star has "felt terrible for so long" for striking Rock onstage after the latter made a joke about wife Jada Pinkett Smith. "He's tried unsuccessfully to make amends in the best way he could with Chris," the source said.     "But beyond that, family is important to him," the source added, noting that Smith "leaned on" family — also comprised of sons Trey and Jaden and daughter Willow — in the aftermath of the incident. "It all has helped him look inside and mature. Avril Lavigne and Tyga have confirmed their romance as they were spotted kissing in front of cameras in the city of love, Paris.      Avril and Tyga sparked dating rumors earlier this year, and have been hanging out a lot both in Los Angeles and Paris , the same city where her ex, Mod Son , proposed.   The Canadian and American singers kissed on Monday, March 6, at the Mugler X Hunter Schafer Party during the Paris Fashion Week.      They certainly looked like a couple at the party, holding hands as they walked into the swanky bash.   Avril called off the engagement to Mod in February, about a year after he popped the question . It was alleged that the former couple had been on and off for several months before she pulled the plug.

A British woman, Kathryn Walker, whose soldier son, Richard Walker died on duty in Afghanistan in 2013, has been arraigned in court for squandering more than £450,000 her son left in his will for someone else.   Kathryn who wasted the money on "extravagant" purchases, was entrusted as executor of the will. A court heard the items she used the money on included vehicles, caravans, horses, private number plates and paying off her own debts, reports Chronicle Live.   The fraud came to light after a relative of the intended beneficiary heard gossip that Kathryn had become "minted" following the death of her son, Sapper Walker.   Newcastle Crown Court heard the sum left by Sapper Walker, after deductions, amounted to £455,774. A cheque for that amount was paid to Walker in 2014.   Uju Anya, a US-based Nigerian professor, has slammed Nigerian men who shame her for being a lesbian.  The LGBTQ activist said many of the women sending her direct messages to reveal they are closeted lesbians are married women.  She added that the reason these women stay in these marriages is because "society gave them no choice."  She then told the men that if they continue to criticise homosexuality and say it is "not African", they build societies where the men end up married to closeted lesbians without knowing it.  See her post below.    

  A 6.0-magnitude earthquake rocked the southern Philippines on Tuesday (Mar 7), the US Geological Survey said, but there were no reports of casualties or major damage. The quake struck at about 2 pm local time (0600 GMT), a few kilometres from Maragusan municipality in the mountainous gold-mining province of Davao de Oro on Mindanao island. Cherrylyn Dapiton of the Maragusan disaster office confirmed there had been a landslide near a road, but it had not affected anyone or blocked traffic. The quake lasted about 30 seconds and was followed by aftershocks, said Corporal Stephanie Clemen, with police in the city of Tagum, about 40km from Maragusan. "We immediately went under our desks and when the ground stopped shaking we went straight outside," Clemen told AFP. "We are still outside because a moderate aftershock just hit." While the quake did not appear to have destroyed anything, Clemen said, it was strong enough to "cause fear".
