Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Dwayne Haskins, and former Ohio State standout Dwayne Haskins, has been  killed after being struck by a car. Haskins, who was set to turn 25 next month, was training with his team in South Florida when the fatal accident occurred early Saturday morning, his agent, Cedric Saunders, confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed reports of Haskins' passing and issued his condolences to Haskins' loved ones.  'I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,' Tomlin said in a statement confirming his death. 'He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community.'   'Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time.'  "Dwayne was a young man of great in...

An interim ex parte order granting former governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, leave to travel to the United States of America to attend to his medical appointment has been challenged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.  The order was granted by Awka Division of the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, on the grounds of denial of fair hearing.  EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren in a statement released on Saturday April 9, accused Obiano of attempting to arm-twist the anti-graft commission with the ex parte order.    It read;    "Available court documents indicate that Obiano had on March 11, 2022, ahead of his handover on March 17 filed a motion ex parte dated March 10, 2022, before Justice Nganjiwa praying among others, for an interim injunction stopping the EFCC from arresting or preventing him from travelling out of the country for his medical treatment. ‘’While the c...

The bodies of 132 civilians were found shot dead at a Russian war crime site in Ukraine, officials said today.  The slain civilians were found in Makariv, a town in Kyiv Oblast and about 30 miles west of the capital. All died from bullet wounds, the town's mayor said.  About 40 percent of the town has been destroyed before Ukrainian troops recaptured it from Russian occupation on March 22. Officials have been counting the dead ever since. Similar scenes have been found in the nearby town of Bucha, where more than 400 dead civilians were discovered. The majority had also been gunned down. Workers unearthed bodies from a mass grave in the commuter town, as graphic evidence of dozens of killings emerged following the withdrawal of Russian forces.   Mr. Solomon Gimba has mourned his brother, a soldier killed in gun battle with bandits in Kaduna State.  Recall that eleven Nigerian soldiers were killed in an attack by suspected gunmen on a military base in Birnin Gwari LGA of the state.  The gunmen who came in large numbers on motorcycles and carrying heavy weapons including rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), invaded the base at Polwire village on Monday night April 4, and engaged the troops in a fierce gun battle. Mr Gimba, who is from Southern Kaduna, took to Facebook on Tuesday, April 5, to mourn his kid brother.  "It was a shocking news of your death my kid brother. You died in a battle field by bandits in protecting your fatherland in Kaduna state. Continue resting at master feet.   A federal high court has barred the media from covering terrorism cases in the country.  The court’s Chief Information Officer, Dr Catherine Christopher said in a statement that terrorism proceedings will be conducted in secret except when the Chief Judge of the court, Justice John Tsoho, grants permission for media coverage.   Terrorism proceedings will also hold at any place to be designated by the chief judge and in the case of the Abuja Judicial Division, the venue, for the time being, would be the premises of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.   The court warned that anyone who contravenes an order or direction made under the practice directions would be deemed to have committed an offence contrary to Section 34(5) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2011 (as amended).   Perimeters of the court sitting over a terrorism trial would be secured for the period of the trial for the safety of litigants and court officials, while distance and siz...

The United Nations General Assembly has suspended Russia from the UN Human Rights Council after high-profile allegations of atrocities committed by Russian soldiers during the war in Ukraine. The measure suspends Russia's membership in the Council and would launch a review of the matter if the UN deems it appropriate. The United States ambassador to the United Nations made a case for seeking the suspension of Russia from the Human Rights Council in front of the UN Security Council on Tuesday, something she and other UN member states have been pushing.     "Russia should not have a position of authority in a body whose purpose -- whose very purpose -- is to promote respect for human rights. The United States made history on Thursday April 7, as the Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court. The Senate voted 53 to 47 to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the 116th Supreme Court justice. When sworn in this summer, Jackson will be the first Black woman to serve on the nation's high court. "This is one of the great moments of American history," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said before the vote. "Today we are taking a giant, bold and important step on the well-trodden path to fulfilling our country's founding promise. This is a great moment for Judge Jackson but it is an even greater moment for America as we rise to a more perfect union."
