A Nigerian national, Simon Chukwunwike, has been arrested with 2 kilograms of cocaine in Pakistan. The suspect was arrested by officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force on arrival at the Sialkot International Airport, Punjab on Tuesday, July 27.  According to Urdu Point, a search operation was carried out at international arrival counter of the airport and some 2kg cocaine were recovered from Chukwunwike. Persons violating Pakistani laws, even unknowingly, may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned. Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking in illegal drugs in Pakistan are severe, and convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines.

Actress Rita Edochie has called for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu was arrested in Kenya on June 27 and extradited to Nigeria on June 29. He is currently standing trial for terrorism and other charges. In a post shared on her Instagram page this morning, Rita who has never hidden her support for the secessionist group called for the release of the group's leader. She wrote; ''FREE MAZI NNAMDI KANU NOW TO AVOID HAD I KNOW ALLOW US TO GO. WE NEED BIAFRA WE CAN'T KEEP BEING THIRD CLASS CITIZENS IN OUR OWN LAND''    

A Maryland man has been arrested on suspicion of sending repeated threats to harm Anthony Fauci, the United States' top infectious disease expert.   According to a newly unsealed criminal complaint, Thomas Patrick Connally, Jr., 56 sent a series of profanity-laden emails to Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and Francis Collins, the director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in which he also rants about billionaires Bill Gates and George Soros, per the complaint filed in U.S. District Court following his arrest in West Virginia on Monday, July 26. Some of the emails were sent via an encrypted email service based in Switzerland and contained death threats. He started sending the threat in 2020 and continued into this year, when the writer complained in April about "mandatory vaccines" . The last email was sent July 21. Former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).  Ohakim announced his defection at Okohia, his country home in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State on Tuesday July 27, after months of speculation.  The Imo politician who was one of the founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state and staunch ally of former Governor Emeka Ihedioha, was elected as governor of Imo State in 2007 on the political platform of Peoples Progressive Party (PPA) but later abandoned his party returned to the PDP. At the formal declaration, Ohakim said he was persuaded to join the APC “by those who will bury him" when he dies. He also said that he was moved by the fact that the administration of Governor Uzodimma was pursuing people oriented policies and programmes. Enyimba Captain, Austin Oladapo has been handed a one-year ban from football by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over an alleged doping violation. According to CAF, Oladapo returned positive for Prednisolone/Prednisone when his urine sample was tested after the Confederations Cup tie against Pyramids FC of Egypt on May 16, 2021. The football governing body said the ban commenced on July 4, 2021, the date of notification of the provisional suspension. CAF wrote on its website: “The result of the player Oladapo Augustine urine test in Bottle “A” which was collected in match N °153 between Pyramids FC (Egypt) Vs Enyimba FC (Nigeria), played on May 16, 2021 in the frame of Total CAF Confederation Cup 2020/2021 was considered positive due to the presence of a prohibited substance “Prednisolone/Prednisone”. “On June 18, 2021, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was informed of the result and asked the player to indicate if he wishes to request the analysis of sample “B”....

A young Nigerian woman has been reported dead in Libya.  Light Wilson, a graduate of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, confirmed her death on Tuesday, July 27.  "We Just Lost Our Sister Here In Libya, My sister,My Best Friend,friend Like A sister,may her soul Rest In Peace. I Miss You Sis your little Baby Girl Elizabeth Miss You" she wrote.   

Nigeria's chances of successful competition at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics have suffered a major setback after the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) ruled that ten Nigerian athletes are ineligible to participate. The athletes were ruled ineligible due to failure to meet the minimum testing requirements under Rule 15 of the Anti-Doping Rules for ‘Category A’ federations. Category A’ federations are those that are deemed to have the highest doping risk and considered as a threat to the overall integrity of the sport. This was revealed in a statement released by the AIU, an independent Athletic body charged with managing all issues of integrity, including doping and non-doping cases. The AIU revealed that a total number of 18 athletes were ruled ineligible to compete at the Tokyo Olympics, with Nigeria accounting for the majority, with 10 athletes.
