Texas mom dies after allegedly killing 4-year-old daughter following custody ruling

A Texas mother allegedly killed her four-year-old daughter before taking her own life, hours after losing primary custody of the child to her ex-husband.

Cibelle Savella, 35, was expected to hand over her daughter, Vivian, to her former husband, Aaron Savella, on Tuesday evening after a family court judge awarded him primary custody.

According to Houston police, officers responded to the family's Houston home after gunsh0ts were heard. Vivian was found dead from an apparent gunsh0t wound, while her mother was taken to hospital after reportedly turning the gun on herself. Police later confirmed that Savella died from her injuries.

Court documents cited by ABC13 said Savella was only allowed to see her daughter under continuous supervision. She was also restricted from speaking Portuguese to Vivian unless someone who spoke the language was present, and was barred from attending some of the child's school activities.

The reasons for the custody decision and the restrictions were not immediately clear. The couple, who divorced in November 2024, had been involved in a custody dispute over their daughter.

The family's lawyer said Aaron had followed the court process and was expecting Vivian to come home to him that evening. The family later described themselves as devastated by the loss.
