The Super Eagles have retained their 26th position in the latest FIFA men's world rankings but have slipped to fourth in Africa following the release of the updated standings on Monday, July 20.
Nigeria's position in the global rankings remained unchanged after their most recent outing, a 2-1 defeat to Portugal in an international friendly in June. With no competitive matches since then, the result had little effect on their overall ranking.
However, the Super Eagles were overtaken in the African rankings by Egypt, whose run to the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup boosted their continental standing before they were eliminated by eventual runners-up Argentina.
Morocco remain Africa's highest-ranked team after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals. The Atlas Lions also climbed one place to sixth in the global rankings. Senegal are ranked second in Africa despite dropping three places worldwide, while Algeria occupy fifth on the continent after slipping one spot in the global standings.
At the top of the world rankings, Spain have reclaimed first place after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, replacing Argentina, whom they defeated in the final. Argentina are now ranked second in the world, with France, England and Brazil completing the top five. FIFA is expected to release its next men's world rankings on October 7, 2026.
