Former Super Eagles captain Troost-Ekong named among legends for historic AFCON 2027 draw

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong will assist with the qualification draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be staged in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday, 19 May.

Troost-Ekong will be joined by three other African legends: Max-Alain Gradel, Essam El Hadary, and Trésor Mputu.

The qualification draw will take place at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

The AFCON 2027 finals will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, and will be played from 19 June to 17 July 2027. It will mark the first time three nations have co-hosted the competition, while also bringing the continental finals back to East Africa for the first time in 51 years.

The 48 teams remaining in the qualifiers will be drawn into 12 groups, with the top two in each pool advancing to the continental finals. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will take part in the qualifiers but have already secured their places as co-hosts, meaning only one additional team from their respective pools will join them.
