A large airliner carrying 367 passengers exploded at an airport near Tokyo on Tuesday, January 2, just a day after a brutal 7.6 magnitude earthquake devastated the west coast of Japan.     The plane engulfed in a raging inferno on the runway at Haneda Airport, in Ota City, Tokyo. The airliner collided with a coastguard plane carrying earthquake aid as it came into land, Japanese TV reported, with the collision triggering a massive explosion.   A Japan Airlines spokesperson reportedly told NHK that all 367 passengers aboard the aircraft at the time of the explosion were successfully evacuated from the plane.      Five out of six Japan Coast Guard crew members on the aircraft that collided with the Japan Airlines aircraft were initially missing, according to TBS Television.     The condition of the five missing crew from the Japanese Coast Guard aircraft who have all been found is not yet known.     Th...

Saudi Arabia executed 170 people in 2023, including four on New Year's Eve, according to an AFP tally based on announcements by Saudi authorities. The four people executed on Sunday, December 31, had been convicted of murder, the official Saudi Press Agency reported, citing statements from the interior ministry.     They included two in the north-western city of Tabuk, one in the capital Riyadh, and one in Jazan in the south-west.     Those executed throughout 2023 included 33 people accused of terrorism-related crimes and two soldiers convicted of treason. There were 38 executions in December, the deadliest month.     A total of 147 convicts were executed in 2022, while a record of 187 executions took place in the kingdom in 2019.     In 2022, Saudi Arabia executed more people than any other country besides China and Iran, Amnesty International has said.

A mum who was on the run after allegedly killing her two children during a custody battle has been arrested in the UK.   Kimberlee Singler, 35, initially cooperated with police when they began investigating the deaths that occurred on December 19. However, she soon disappeared, according to authorities in the US.  The mum was reportedly caught in an undisclosed location in the UK and has now been taken into custody “without incident”.   The Colorado Springs Police Department said they will reveal more in a press conference, which has yet to be scheduled. They did not share any more details about her arrest or the charges against her.   It comes after she allegedly killed her nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son, and tried to kill her 11-year-old daughter, according to cops in her native Colorado.       The deaths of the children occurred during an ongoing legal dispute between Singler and her ex-husband, according to court documents....

Prince Andrew has avoided another sex assault trial after a woman who accused him of wrongdoing missed a deadline to file her claim.     Johanna Sjoberg, who has accused the Duke of York and paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein of sexually abusing her, had until a month ago to file a case against the royal, the Mirror reports.   There was concern that the King's eldest brother could face another lawsuit similar filed by another of Epstein's victim, Virginia Roberts Guiffre, which ended with her receiving a reported £12million out-of-court settlement.     The prince will no longer face a new lawsuit after Ms Sjoberg did not file a motion in time in the United States, with sources close to the Duke saying he is 'mightily relieved' and wants to rebuild his image.   However, it might not be the end of the ordeal for the Duke of York over his associations with Epstein, who killed himself in prison in 2019.     Material...

  Wayne Rooney has been sacked by Birmingham following a disastrous stint at the championship club. Birmingham lost 3-0 at Leeds on New Year's Day in what turned out to be Rooney's final match at the helm. The 38-year-old was appointed in October after the controversial sacking of John Eustace. The Manchester United and England legend departs Blues having won just two of his 15 games in charge. He inherited a side sitting fifth in the Championship table under his predecessor but took them down to 20th. His tenure at the club turned toxic when a number of travelling Birmingham fans chanted "Wayne Rooney, get out of our club". Thr Blues board - which includes NFL legend Tom Brady decided to pull the trigger after the New Year's day loss. Rooney's previous stint was at DC United, an American Football club.  

  Prosecutors have alleged that late rapper Tupac Shakur's murder suspect Keefe D should stay in custody despite a bid for house arrest because he has an 'authorization to kill' witnesses. Court-appointed lawyers for Duane 'Keefe D' Davis say their 60-year-old client is in poor health, poses no danger to the community, and won't flee to avoid trial. They want the judge to set his bail at no more than $100,000.  Keefe, currently being held in Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge and has remained jailed without bail since his arrest on September 29 outside his home in suburban Henderson.   The filing said that his son told him during a recorded phone call on October 9 that a 'green light' order was given.
