A New York man who confessed to the gruesome slaying of his mother sexually assaulted her as he beat and strangled her, prosecutors revealed Sunday night, May 9. Pushkar Sharma, aged 28, from Queens, told police he woke up the morning before Mother’s Day “with an uncontrollable urge to hurt someone,” according to a criminal complaint.   About 8 a.m. Saturday, he went down to the basement of the family home on Winchester Blvd. near Braddock Ave. in Bellerose Manor and attacked his mother, prosecutors said. Sharma allegedly approached his 65-year old mother from behind, wrapped his hands around her throat, and started choking and punching her in the face. She struggled for several minutes as the horrific attack continued. Anambra State Vigilante office at Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area and a police station in the community were on Sunday May 9, attacked by unknown gunmen.  Police spokesperson in the state, Ikenga Tochukwu said the attack on the vigilante office was carried out around 7pm.    Tochukwu said;    “The hoodlums who came with a Toyota Sienna vehicle and motorcycles started shooting sporadically. “Unfortunately two yet unidentified persons sustained gunshot injury."   The attack at Ozubulu police station was repelled by the officers and it was learnt that no police officer sustained an injury during the attack. Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, has apologised to the Catholic church over the attack and destruction of the Enugu Catholic Diocese Bishop’s Court and Holy Ghost Cathedral in Enugu. Mbaka, who is the spiritual director of Adoration Ministries Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), rendered the apology while delivering his sermon on Sunday at Adoration Ground in Emene. He maintained the church didn’t kidnap him and apologised to whoever misunderstood his first statement when he reappeared at New Haven. He said he was misquoted in the first statement by people who want to cause problem between him and the church. No fewer than 28 bodies have been recovered by divers from the scene of Saturday’s boat mishap in Tijana village of Munya Local Government Area of Niger. Mallam Ahmed Inga, the Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, told newsmen in Minna on Sunday that the number of people on board was about 100. According to him, 28 bodies have been recovered, 65 people rescued, while search for the remaining seven was ongoing. A local boat carrying about 100 people, including women and children, capsized at about 6:00pm on Saturday, midway into its two hours journey. The six-month old local boat capsized due to a heavy windstorm occasioned by Saturday’s evening rain in the area. The villagers were said to be returning from a local market in Zumba village of Shiroro Local Government Area.

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a nine-year-old boy after an attack in Peterborough . The child was walking with his brother on Peveril Road, in Peterborough, at 3.24pm on Saturday, when a man attacked him and left with multiple injuries to his face and head before he then ran away. Officers were called to Peveril Rd by the ambulance service at 3.24 pm on Saturday May 8. The boy was initially taken to Peterborough City Hospital with life-changing injuries before later being transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he remains in a stable condition. Faisal Khan, 24, of Almond Road, Dogsthorpe, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place, police said. He was arrested at his home on Saturday night, initially on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. Khan has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Peterborough magistrates today May 10.

Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo and his fiancee Fancy Acholonu have announced their wedding dates.  Their traditional wedding will hold on Saturday, November 20th in Imo State, while the white wedding will take place the next Saturday, November 27th in Lagos State.     The couple announced their engagement earlier this month.

A retired Assistant Superintendent of Police has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death in Bauchi. Daniel Salka, who is also the head of Sabon Layi Kwara hamlet in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has been suspended by his local government over the alleged violence that led to his wife's death, Hajara Daniel. A statement from the Chairman of Bogoro local government, Iliya Habila, signed by Director of Administration and General Services, Mr. Marcus Nehemaih, reads: "The suspension is with immediate effect pending the outcome of an investigation by the police. "Mr. Daniel Salka is alleged to have beaten his wife, the late Mrs Hajara, to death on April 19, 2021. He was arrested by the combined team of vigilantes and DSS officials on April 26, 2021 in Bayara suburb and has since been handed over to the police in Bogoro." The body of a former footballer who was missing for four days has been found by police. James Dean, 35, a former player for Chorley FC and AFC Fylde, was last seen in Oswaldtwistle at around midnight on Wednesday, May 5. A desperate search was launched on Saturday after his heartbroken family became seriously concerned by his disappearance. But on Sunday,  police announced that a body had been found believed to be Mr. Dean. A statement from Lancashire Constabulary said: “Following extensive police enquiries a body was found in the Moscow Mill Street area around 2.25pm today (Sunday, May 9). “While the body has yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be Mr Dean. A police divisional headquarters in Abia State, was on Sunday May 9 attacked by unknown gunmen.  The attack on the police facility located at Trademore Estate in Umuahia, the state capital was carried out at about 9:45am.  No life was lost in the attack, but it was however gathered that one of the police personnel on duty sustained an injury and has been taken to a hospital for treatment. Police Public Relation Officer in the state, Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the attack and also disclosed that police authorities in the state were making effort to ascertain the level of damage at the facility and arrest the perpetrators. He said;    “Yes, there was an attack on Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters. The police in Korle Bu, Ghana are currently carrying out an investigation following complaint of contamination of a medical doctor’s drinking water with HIV-infected blood. Graphic Online reported that the doctors involved work at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), and the act is suspected to have been carried out following a disagreement between the two while on duty. A complaint was filed at Korle Bu District Police Command at about 11.30 am on May 6, 2021, by a medical doctor accompanied by the lawyer of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) Mr Kwame Gyamfi, regarding the allegation of water-poisioning.  The medical doctor told the police that he was on a 24-hour duty with six other doctors at the Labour Ward One of the hospital.
