Controversial music producer Phil Spector has died from COVID-19 related complications at the age of 81. Spector, who is serving a 19-year jail sentence for shooting dead actress and hostess, Lana Clarkson at his LA mansion in 2003, was diagnosed with Covid-19 four weeks ago and was transferred from his prison cell at California Health Care Facility in Stockton to a hospital.   Lana Clarkson    He recovered enough to return to jail but he relapsed and struggled with breathing and returned to a hospital where he died on Saturday, Jan 16, according to TMZ. The California Department of Corrections confirmed his passing after he was pronounced dead of natural causes at 6.35pm Saturday.     A medical examiner will determine his exact cause of death.  Phil's ex-wife Ronnie Spector took to Facebook to share a photo of them together while mourning him.     She wrote: "It’s a sad day for music and a sad day for me. ...

The de facto chief of South Korea's Samsung business empire was convicted Monday over a huge corruption scandal and jailed for two and a half years, in a ruling that deprives the tech giant of its top decision-maker. Lee Jae-yong, vice-chairman of Samsung Electronics, the world's biggest smartphone and memory chip maker, was found guilty of bribery and embezzlement in connection with the scandal that brought down president Park Geun-hye. Lee "actively provided bribes and implicitly asked the president to use her power to help his smooth succession" at the head of the sprawling conglomerate, the Seoul Central District Court said in its verdict. 10 people have been killed after a bandit attack in Janbako community of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.  It was learnt that local vigilantes withstood the bandits who invaded the community by 10.30 am yesterday January 17. 5 out of the 10 people killed were said to be the vigilantes, and four other people were also injured. An eyewitness told The Nation;    “Bandits shot and killed 10 innocent people during the attack while four people sustained gunshot wounds in the village."   Residents of the community appealed to the state and federal governments to deploy more security personnel to the area.

Two cemetery security guards in Ondo State have been arrested for allegedly being in possession of human heads in the state. The incident occurred at the Surulere area of Ondo town on Sunday, Jan 17. The guards work with a cemetery owned by a religious body in the town. One of the guards, identified only as Alhaji, was allegedly caught by residents with a bag containing one of the heads. Irate youths attempted to lynch the cemetery guards but failed thanks to the timely intervention of the state security outfit codenamed Amotekun. A source said, according to Vanguard: "Very early today (Sunday) somebody went to defecate in a bush beside the cemetery and he saw Alhaji with a sledgehammer and he broke one of the tombs in the cemetery.   Christina Milian is pregnant with her third child and second baby with her boyfriend, French singer Matt Pokora. The American actress and singer, 39, took to Instagram to share these bikini photos of herself posing at the beach with her growing baby bump on display. The new addition will join Isaiah, 11 months,  her first child with Pokora, and 10-year-old daughter Violet Madison, who Milian shares with ex-husband The-Dream.

US  President-elect, Joe Biden plans to sign roughly a dozen executive orders on his first day in the White House, that will show a stunning rebuke of outgoing US President Donald Trump's policies . The executive orders include rejoining the Paris climate accord and ending the travel ban on predominantly Muslim countries, according to a memo from incoming chief of staff Ron Klain released Saturday night, January 16. A Catholic priest, Father John Gbakaan, has been killed by unknown gunmen in Niger State. According to reports, Fr. Gbakaan alongside his brother and another priest travelled to Makurdi in Benue state last Thursday, January 14 to see his mother. The cleric was on his way back to Niger state with his brother when they were attacked by gunmen along Lambata-Lapai road. The attackers were said to have descended on the priest with machetes, hacking his body beyond recognition. His body was found the following day tied to a tree in a bush while his vehicle, a Toyota Venza was also found in the bush. Meanwhile, the brother of the deceased clergyman was abducted and is yet to be found. His abductors have reportedly contacted the Catholic Diocese in Minna and initially demanded N30 million as ransom but later reduced it to N5 million. The state police command is yet to comment on this development.

Ebube Nwagbo has lost her mum after a battle with an undisclosed ailment. The heartbroken actress took to Instagram in the early hours of Monday, Jan 18, to announce the sad news. She said her mum was a fighter and fought till she breathed her last. She added that despite the fact she was going through pains, her mum fought to live.   Prince William was cornered by a snarling police dog on the Sandringham estate, it has been revealed. The Royal was enjoying a late night walk when the attack dog mistook him for an intruder. William escaped unharmed by standing still until handler PC Jon Chandler arrived on scene. Jon has revealed the bizarre encounter for the first time after retiring from his 30 year police career. He told the Eastern Daily Press: "I had a particularly interesting night when I was walking my dog off the lead around the grounds and he chased after the future king of England.  "It was late at night and Prince William was walking towards the garages and the dog picked up his scent and went charging after him. "He took it in good jest. He was only young then. "It could have gone horribly wrong if he was bitten, but fortunately the dog did what it was supposed to do, and just stood back and barked at him. A suspected ritualist den was uncovered on sunday January 17, opposite the University teaching hospital Ado Ekiti.   An elderly man was paraded by residents of the area as a suspect and some of the items found at the den include cheque books, human photos , wigs, horn, ATMs and other materials.   The suspect has reportedly been handed over to the police.

  A 40-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested by police in Trinidad and Tobago for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine into Thailand and India. A statement by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said that on January 13th, 2021, at around 2.15 pm officers attached to the Marabella Criminal Investigation Department (CID), as a result of information received, proceeded to TTPost, Coffee Street San Fernando, where they detained the Nigerian national. The suspect, a resident of Rueben Lane Enterprise, Chaguanas, reportedly attempted to export a quantity of cocaine to India and Thailand, which were hidden among several fishing reels in several envelopes. Officers from the said unit under the supervision of Sgt Wilkinson of the San Fernando Operations Unit executed a search warrant around 4.20pm at the man’s Enterprise address, where they recovered 446 grammes of cocaine.   The quantity of cocaine along with the Nigerian man were then taken to the M...
