Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympics, abandoning his mixed doubles bronze medal match. He cited a left shoulder injury, moments after losing the singles bronze medal to Spaniard Pablo Carrena Busta. He has therefore gifted Australia’s Ashleigh Barty and John Peers the bronze in the doubles without letting them sweat for it. He has also let down his partner, Nina Stojanović. The police in Imo state have repelled bandit attacks in Njaba town in the state. A statement released by CSP Michael Abattam says on July 30, a convoy of bandits moving towards Njaba Town to launch an attack was intercepted by men of the Operation Restore Peace team of the Nigeria Police, Imo State command. Nigerian athlete, Blessing Okagbare, has been provisionally suspended after failing a drug test at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on Friday July 30. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), the independent body created by the World Athletics that manages all integrity issues for the sport, announced the decision. According to the body, Okagbare tested positive for Human Growth Hormone.   “Growth Hormone is a non-specified substance on the 2021 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List and a provisional suspension is mandatory following an adverse analytical finding for such substance under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules. The AIU collected the sample from Ms. Okagbare during an out-of-competition test on 19 July. The WADA-accredited laboratory that analysed the sample notified the AIU of the adverse analytical finding at mid-day Central European Time yesterday, Friday 30 July.     The sentencing of self-confessed internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi, has been slated for October this year. This is according to the United States Attorney’s Office at the Central District of California. Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai in July 2020 for a multi-millionaire dollar fraud perpetrated by him and members of his syndicate. This week he pleaded guilty to various offences bordering on internet scam, money laundering, among others.  His plea bargain document which was released online this week was signed by Hushpuppi, his lawyer, Loius Shapiro; and Acting United States Attorney, Tracy Wilkison, among others.

Veteran actress, Rachel Oniga has died at the age of 64.  According to reports, the actress who has been divorced from her husband for 19 years, died on Friday night July 30th from Covid-19 complications .  Oniga is said to have shot some scenes in a movie at Mowe, Ogun state earlier this week before her death. Governor Aminu Masari has said that he has no joy governing Katsina state as the increased security in the North West state has been giving him and others sleepless nights.  Speaking during an interview with DW Hausa on Friday July 30, the Governor said the state has been plagued by security matters from sunset to dawn.  According to Masari, no sensible leader who has the feeling of his people at heart will be happy in such situation.  He said;    “In this difficult time and uncertainty, all the issue of governance has been dominated by security matters from sunset to dawn. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus will pursue their European Super League dream, after winning in court on Friday. The three clubs refused to pull out of plans for the breakaway league in April, after nine clubs withdrew following public outrage. Lamar Odom has been ordered to pay nearly $400,000 to his ex-girlfriend after he allegedly stopped paying her child support and other costs related to their two kids. Liza Morales sued the ex-Los Angeles Laker in May, claiming he hasn’t been honoring their 2015 settlement agreement over their now-adult children since June 2020. Morales alleged that Odom was behind on child support, college costs and tuition, as well as rent for the Lower Manhattan apartment where she lives with their kids, Destiny, 23, and Lamar Jr., 19, prompting an eviction case against her.     At a court hearing last month, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper granted Morales’ request for a default judgment against Odom, since he hadn’t appeared in the case to defend himself against the claims. A mother has been arrested by Oklahoma police after her 12-year-old daughter gave birth to a 24-year-old man’s baby. According to the Tulsa Police Department, the woman, Desiree Castaneda, and other family members knew about the victim’s relationship with 24-year-old Juan Miranda-Jara.   Police said they even threw the underage victim a baby shower.   Tulsa Police Department said in a statement posted on Facebook: "The family permitted the relationship, and there are photos of the family throwing a baby shower for the victim and the suspect." Desiree Castaneda faces charges of enabling child sex abuse and neglect. Jara, who impregnated the girl, was arrested on July 14 at the hospital where he accompanied the victim when she went into labor.     According to police, Jara admitted he was in a relationship with the victim and that he was the biological father of the baby. Popular South African actor and filmmaker, Shona Ferguson has died.  The 47-year-old  Rockville  actor and husband to producer and actress, Connie Ferguson, died at Milpark Hospital today, Friday, July 30, due to Covid-19 related complications.   A statement from his family reads   "It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Mr. Shona Ferguson. He passed away at noon today (Friday, 30 July 2021). Mr. Ferguson’s untimely passing was due to Covid-19 related complications, and not a heart operation as reported in the media. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced that it will be enforcing a lockdown every Monday in the south-east until leader of the proscribed group, Nnamdi Kanu is released. Manchester City football club of England have tabled a £100 million ($140m) bid for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, according to a report by The Telegraph.The Citizens have been linked with the England international for some time, and have now made the bold transfer move ahead of a Premier League title defence in 2021-22. A 22 year old YouTuber, Albert Dyrlund, has died after falling to his death while filming a video for his YouTube channel. According to his mother, Vibe Jørger Jensen who spoke to Denmark's TV2, Albert Dyrlund, fell over 650 feet on Wednesday July 28 while filming a video in Forcella Pana, in the Italian Alps. She also asked for privacy for her and her family as they mourn the loss. 'We are in great grief, but I would like his fans to know,' she told the station The accident reportedly occurred on a hiking trail that links two mountain peeks, characterised by steep and rocky slopes.   He stumbled while he was filming the video and fell, dying on the spot. The outlet say a rescue helicopter was called to the scene.   Olumide Bankole Morakinyo, 38, a Canada-based Nigerian has been sentenced to eight years in prison in the United States for defrauding the Texas Employees Retirement System. He will also pay $975,863 in restitution to multiple victims for conspiracy to commit money laundering. Morakinyo was sentenced by a court in Austin Texas, according to a statement released by U.S. Attorney’s office of the Western District of Texas. ‘This Defendant’s scheme and those like it victimise our most vulnerable citizens and cost taxpayers billions each year,’ said U.S. Attorney Ashley C. Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have invaded Nasarawa State Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning in Lafia, and catered away the sum of N100 million. Daily Post gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when the gunmen invaded the ministry, shooting sporadically. It was also learnt that the assailants trailed some members of staff who went to a commercial bank to withdraw some cash for the ministry. The armed men were said to have snatched the N100 million on gun point at the premises of the ministry which is adjacent to the State’s Accountant General’s Office where some security operatives were stationed.

A bottle-wielding thug has been charged with attacking a priest while he prayed in a cathedral. The incident reportedly took place at St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in Edinburgh on Monday morning, July 26.  Father Jamie McMorrin, 35, was sitting alone on a pew in St Mary’s in Edinburgh when he was approached by a man who asked if he was a priest before trying to hit him with a glass bottle, Metro UK reports.   Despite being chased to the back of the building, the priest reportedly managed to escape unhurt. Police said that a 31-year-old man was arrested in Cumbria and charged in connection with the incident.  He was also charged in connection with an assault at Princes Street Gardens East on Monday. The Senate has accused the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation of illegally withdrawing N665.8 billion from Development of Natural Resources Fund and Stabilization Funds and giving it as loans to various government agencies.  The claim was made in a report by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts on the Federation Account which has been investigating expenditures of federal government agencies from 2015-2018 based on an audit report by the Auditor-General for the Federation. The funds were alleged to have been withdrawn between 2004 and 2015 contrary to the established objectives of the fund. A Nigerian national, Simon Chukwunwike, has been arrested with 2 kilograms of cocaine in Pakistan. The suspect was arrested by officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force on arrival at the Sialkot International Airport, Punjab on Tuesday, July 27.  According to Urdu Point, a search operation was carried out at international arrival counter of the airport and some 2kg cocaine were recovered from Chukwunwike. Persons violating Pakistani laws, even unknowingly, may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned. Penalties for possession, use, or trafficking in illegal drugs in Pakistan are severe, and convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines.

Actress Rita Edochie has called for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Kanu was arrested in Kenya on June 27 and extradited to Nigeria on June 29. He is currently standing trial for terrorism and other charges. In a post shared on her Instagram page this morning, Rita who has never hidden her support for the secessionist group called for the release of the group's leader. A Maryland man has been arrested on suspicion of sending repeated threats to harm Anthony Fauci, the United States' top infectious disease expert.   According to a newly unsealed criminal complaint, Thomas Patrick Connally, Jr., 56 sent a series of profanity-laden emails to Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and Francis Collins, the director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in which he also rants about billionaires Bill Gates and George Soros, per the complaint filed in U.S. District Court following his arrest in West Virginia on Monday, July 26. Some of the emails were sent via an encrypted email service based in Switzerland and contained death threats. He started sending the threat in 2020 and continued into this year, when the writer complained in April about "mandatory vaccines" . The last email was sent July 21. Enyimba Captain, Austin Oladapo has been handed a one-year ban from football by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over an alleged doping violation. According to CAF, Oladapo returned positive for Prednisolone/Prednisone when his urine sample was tested after the Confederations Cup tie against Pyramids FC of Egypt on May 16, 2021. The football governing body said the ban commenced on July 4, 2021, the date of notification of the provisional suspension. A young Nigerian woman has been reported dead in Libya.  Light Wilson, a graduate of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, confirmed her death on Tuesday, July 27.  "We Just Lost Our Sister Here In Libya, My sister,My Best Friend,friend Like A sister,may her soul Rest In Peace. Nigeria's chances of successful competition at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics have suffered a major setback after the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) ruled that ten Nigerian athletes are ineligible to participate. The athletes were ruled ineligible due to failure to meet the minimum testing requirements under Rule 15 of the Anti-Doping Rules for ‘Category A’ federations. Category A’ federations are those that are deemed to have the highest doping risk and considered as a threat to the overall integrity of the sport. This was revealed in a statement released by the AIU, an independent Athletic body charged with managing all issues of integrity, including doping and non-doping cases. The AIU revealed that a total number of 18 athletes were ruled ineligible to compete at the Tokyo Olympics, with Nigeria accounting for the majority, with 10 athletes.   A woman was killed when her parachute malfunctioned and didn't open when she jumped out of a plane to skydive, police have said.   Karen Bernard, 59, of Wildwood, Florida, US, died around 9am on Saturday, July 24, when she jumped out of a plane in the central New York town of Westford.   Her brother Terry also announced the tragic death with a post on Facebook.     He wrote: "It is with a sad heart that I need to notify you, her family, and friends that Karen passed away Saturday, July 24 in a skydiving-related accident.   "She was doing the things she loved to do. Prison Break star, Wentworth Miller has revealed he has been diagnosed with autism as an adult. The 49-year-old movie star shared this on Instagram. Miller noted that "access to a diagnosis is a privilege many do not enjoy," admitting that his diagnosis was "a shock," but "not a surprise."  He also stated that he simply wants to share his news, and not become a “loud, ill-informed voice” in the autism community.   Miller wrote;    Like everyone, life in quarantine took things from me. Raphael Varane is the latest superstar to join Manchester United. The 28-year-old France World Cup winner with four Champions League titles to his name has been announced as the new signing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer. A club statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of French international defender and World Cup winner, Raphaël Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised.” The deal is expected to be around £43 million.
