Harold Bornstein, Trump's ex-doctor dies at 73

President Donald Trump’s former personal physician, Dr. Harold Bornstein, is dead.

A obituary notice in The New York Times says Bornstein died Friday, Jan. 8, but does not include a cause of death.

“A devoted husband and loving father, Dr. Bornstein is survived by his wife, Melissa (Brown), his daughter, Alix, and sons, Robyn Bornstein M.D., Joseph Bornstein M.D., Jeremee, and Jackson,” the obit says. “Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will be a private service for family and friends.”

Bornstein was best known as Trump’s doctor in New York for more than 30 years, famously vouching for his health during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“His physical strength and stamina are extraordinary,” said a letter from Bornstein released by Trump’s campaign in December 2015. “If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”

Bornstein later told CNN that Trump dictated the letter.

“I didn’t write that letter,” Bornstein told CNN in 2018. “I just made it up as I went along.”

The long-haired gastroenterologist returned to the spotlight that same year when he accused three Trump associates of raiding his office in 2017 and seizing Trump’s medical records. Bornstein said Trump’s personal bodyguard Keith Schiller, a Trump Organization lawyer, and a third person came to his New York office and took lab reports and medical charts under both Trump’s name and pseudonyms used by Trump.

He was 73.
