US passes 5m Covid-19 cases as Joe Biden says the pandemic ‘breaks the heart’

US passes 5m Covid-19 cases as Joe Biden says the pandemic ?breaks the heart?

The US has surpassed 5 million positive Coronavirus cases, a development Donald Trump’s rival for the 2020 presidential election, Joe Biden says 'breaks the heart' .

The US now has the highest number of Covid-19 cases, crossing the 5m threshold and the highest number of deaths in the world from the virus, at nearly 163,000, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University.

In response, Trump on Sunday August 9, signed an executive order for further economic relief for those who have lost their jobs or at risk of being thrown out of their houses by their landlords due to high unemployment rates caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Trump has so far said the Coronavirus pandemic is under control and that the high number of cases is as a result of the high number of tests being carried out in the US, but the Democrats’ presumptive presidential candidate, Joe Biden, doesn't' seem to agree.

Biden has now published a statement criticizing Trump over the new milestone of 5 million cases.

“It’s a number that boggles the mind and breaks the heart,” he wrote.

“Five million is more than the entire population of Alabama – or of more than half the states in our union, for that matter. Each time the number clicks up, it represents a life altered, a family stricken with anxiety, a community on edge. And for the families of the more than 160,000 souls who have died because of this virus, it is a pain that can never be undone.”

He added: “And yet, we continue to hear little more from President Trump than excuses and lies in an effort to cover for his repeated failures of leadership – failures that worsened the pandemic here at home, and in turn deepened our economic crisis.
