The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, says President Bola Tinubu is experiencing sleepless nights over the political momentum of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kwankwaso made the assertion on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he evaluated his party's readiness for the upcoming polls.   "Peter Obi is popular in the South, and we are mobilizing our people in the North. Even the President is concerned about the person of our presidential candidate, and he has been having sleepless nights because of him," Kwankwaso said. He contended that President Tinubu recognizes his inability to secure victory single-handedly, forcing him to rely heavily on state governors for support. Expressing confidence in the opposition's prospects, the former Kano State governor stated that members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and citizens seeking national ...

Image
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has issued a formal apology for his proposed World Cup sell-off plan during a three-hour FIFA Council meeting in Zurich on Thursday, amid mounting pressure from European football administrators demanding his resignation. Infantino expressed regret for failing to consult council members prior to advancing the initiative, which sought to sell a 20 per cent commercial stake in future FIFA tournaments to private equity investors. However, the gesture failed to satisfy European football leadership. Football Association (FA) Chair Debbie Hewitt reiterated that the apology was insufficient, arguing that critical questions regarding transparency and governance remain unanswered. UEFA leaders have demanded the complete release of all documentation related to the commercial proposal, alleging that the rights were set to be transferred at a significantly discounted valuation. Simultaneously, the FIFA Peace Prize awarded exclusively to U.S. President Donald Tr...

Pope Leo to undergo surgery after doctors find growth in his lungs

Pope Leo XIV announced that he will undergo surgery to remove a "small, localized nodule" in his lung, sparking the first public health concerns of the 71-year-old pope's tenure in leading the Catholic Church. The 71-year-old announced this to pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square following his customary prayer on Sunday, October 11. He mentioned that doctors had found the lung nodule "at a very early stage and is well-localized."   A lung nodule is a small abnormal area of less than an inch that appears in the chest or abdomen during a CT scan, according to the American Cancer Society. It states that most lung nodules are not cancer and are "more often the result of old infections, scar tissue, or other causes."   The pope's operation will take place early this coming week at Rome's Gemelli hospital, where the popes typically receive medical care, and he is expected to remain in recovery for a week, the Vatican later told reporters.

The father of a one-year-old girl killed in a mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, has described the gunman as the family’s patriarch, saying he never appeared distressed or gave any indication that such a tragedy could occur.   Julius Windham made the remarks on Sunday, October 11, while visiting a memorial for the victims of the shooting, which occurred at a residence shortly before 5 p.m. on Friday, October 9. Windham’s daughter, Amarianna, was among eight people killed by the gunman, who later took his own life. The victims included Amarianna’s pregnant mother, her five-year-old half-brother, and her unborn sibling.   “I think that was a front for him,” Windham said, reflecting on the gunman’s seemingly normal behaviour before the killings.   “Him every day, him smiling and being just — you would think of nothing like that would happen,” he added.   The 45-year-old gunman took his own life. Authorities have not released his name, but Erie Police Chief Rick...

Ukrainians will decide their next Leader - Zelensky replies Trump

Image
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky has pushed back against U.S. counterpart Donald Trump’s call for his replacement, stating that while future leadership decisions rest strictly with the Ukrainian public, national elections could be organized if Russia agrees to a 60-day total ceasefire. The exchange follows a sharp flare-up in tensions after Trump announced a waiver on sanctions for significant quantities of Russian diesel to help reduce domestic fuel costs ahead of the upcoming U.S. midterm elections. Trump subsequently criticized Ukraine’s ongoing military strikes against Russian oil refineries, asserting they exacerbate global energy pressures, and suggested that Kyiv should install a new leader capable of settling the conflict.   "First of all, with all respect to President Trump, it’s up to our society, up to our people to choose one or another leader," Zelensky told ABC news during a televised interview on Sunday. Addressing suggestions regarding democratic vote...
