  King Harald V of Norway, Europe’s oldest monarch, has died at the age of 89, after 35 years on the throne.   He died on Friday, August 28, just after 6:35am, the Royal House of Norway announced on its website. Harald is succeeded as monarch by his son Haakon.   He leaves his wife of 57 years, Queen Sonja, two children, and five grandchildren. His granddaughter Ingrid Alexandra now becomes heir to the Norwegian throne.   Harald was Europe’s oldest monarch. The popular king modernized the royal house but refused to follow in the footsteps of other aging monarchs who have abdicated in recent times. Cole has canceled his Sacramento concert after a member of his touring crew was killed in a trucking accident Thursday morning, August 27.     In a statement, Cole's team says, "Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning," his scheduled performance at Golden 1 Center on August 27 has been called off.   The team adds, "Our thoughts are with the crew member’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."   The driver was hauling equipment for Cole’s show when the big rig overturned on southbound Interstate 5 near Woodland, California, U.S. The crash happened around 6:00 AM, and CHP says the driver was the truck's only occupant.       The musician's touring truck was hauling equipment ahead of the show at the Golden 1 Center when it crashed and overturned shortly after 6:05 a.m. in Yolo County, northwest of Woodland, KCRA reported.     Authorities sa...

  The US is preparing to withdraw about 200 troops from Nigeria who were deployed this year to help fight Islamist militants, the New York Times reports.   The withdrawal, expected by late September, comes after months of joint operations between U.S. and Nigerian forces, including intelligence-sharing missions, special forces training and counterterrorism operations targeting extremist groups in the country.   American and Nigerian officials told the New York Times that the relatively small deployment to Nigeria had outsized results.   Small teams of trainers and intelligence analysts are, however, expected to remain after the larger contingent leaves by late September, according to the NYT report published on Thursday, August 27, citing US military officials.   The report noted that American officials described the deployment of troops in Nigeria as a model for future operations in Africa, arguing that the relatively small force achieved significant results, i...

  Salt, the sister of Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, has shared her thoughts on dating or marrying a man who earns less than her.  Speaking on the Wahala Podcast, Salt was asked if she would date or marry a man she is richer than.   “I will control him o,” she said.   When asked if she was serious, she doubled down, saying: “Yes, I will and I know myself. I am very self-aware, I will control you. Yes, I will control him because I am richer and I am saying the truth.”   Salt also said that even if she were richer than her partner, she would still expect him to provide financially. “Even though I am richer, he will still be providing,” she said.   She added that she would deliberately keep the extent of her wealth from him.   “He wouldn’t even know I have a lot of money because I will not make him know that,” she said, adding that “he will be fine.”    

  A mother and one of her 2-year-old twin daughters were killed by a lightning strike in Florida. Kenya Glasgow, 31, and her young daughter Kennedi were found lying on the sidewalk in Margate after they were jolted by a bolt of lightning right in front of their devastated husband and dad around 2:30 pm Sunday, according to the Margate Police Department.   “I saw the whole thing,” Kam Glasgow told The Post through sobs on Monday, the morning after losing his wife and one of his children.     “A bolt of lightning came down, I got hit with the residuals from the ground, and I looked over, and that’s when I saw them,” the shattered dad added.   “S–t can’t be real,” he also wrote on Facebook of the “1 In 1.2 million” freak accident.   First responders rushed to the scene and immediately began treating the victims and performing CPR, according to police.  They were rushed to separate hospitals, where the mother and daughter were each declared dead soon ...

  Operatives of the Enugu State Command attached to Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) have rescued three victims of abduction and recovered their Lexus RX350, two locally made firearms, ammunition and other exhibits.    According to the spokesperson of the command, SP Damiel Ndukwe, the operation followed credible intelligence received at about 1:30 a.m. on August 18, 2026, while the operatives were on crime-prevention patrol along the Port Harcourt Expressway, Enugu, concerning the carjacking and abduction of occupants of a Lexus RX350 within Independence Layout by armed hoodlums. ‘’Acting swiftly, the operatives commenced a hot pursuit of the suspects, which continued to Hillview Road, Independence Layout.
