  A 26-year-old Belgian car salesman, Clément Vandenkerckhove, has officially become a prince of Belgium after a paternity test confirmed that his biological father is Prince Laurent, the younger brother of King Philippe.  The legal recognition took place during a low-key town hall ceremony six months ago following a DNA test, confirming Vandenkerckhove as the son and heir of the 63-year-old royal. His mother, Belgian singer Wendy Van Wanten (whose real name is Iris Vandenkerckhove), had a relationship with Prince Laurent during the 1990s after meeting at a Paris fashion show, but she only revealed the identity of his father to him when he turned 16.   Portuguese football player, Quevin Castro, has died after collapsing during a friendly match playing for fourth-division team Real Sport Clube. He was 25. The former West Brom midfielder fell to the ground during the first half of third-tier Real Sport Clube's friendly against top-flight side Estrela de Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in Lisbon on Saturday.   The Lisbon Football Association (AFL) said that Castro "passed away this morning during the pre-season friendly".   Real Sport Clube said the midfielder was a "beloved member of our sporting family".   "Quevin Castro was much more than just a player; he was an integral part of our family, leaving an indelible mark on all those who knew him."   Castro, who grew up in Thetford in Norfolk, joined West Brom in 2021 and made his debut for the club against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.   His second appearance for the club came against Swansea later that season, before joining Burton Albion on loan.   ...

  A woman and her three children have died in a fire outbreak that completely destroyed the Rugar Audu Badali Fulani community in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State. The incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday, August 21, 2026, according to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA). The deceased were identified as Bilkisu, wife of Mallam Bukar, and their three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu. .the victims were buried according to Islamic rites, while surviving members of the household were left homeless following the destruction of their residence and belonging. Director of Search and Rescue Operations of YOSEMA, Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Jalo, disclosed this to Daily Trust reporter in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.   A small UK power generator was forced to shut down for four days after it was targeted in a cyberattack reportedly linked to Iranian hackers.   The incident, which is reported to have taken place last month, is believed to be the first time Iranian-affiliated hackers have successfully shut down a UK facility of this kind.   Sources did not name the facility, but it is understood to be a “small-scale energy generator” and the incident did not pose any risk to the wider grid, The Telegraph reports.   It is thought to have been reported to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ, which responds to serious cyber incidents affecting UK organisations. In response, the government issued briefings to power companies and wrote to businesses with advice.   A former University of Kentucky cheerleader pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges for killing her newborn son, whose lifeless body was found stuffed in a trash bag.   An emotional Laken Snelling admitted to “ending” her baby’s life in a Kentucky courtroom Friday morning, after initially pleading not guilty to first-degree manslaughter in April.   Snelling, now 22, also pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant. “I was under a lot of emotional stress, and my baby came unexpectedly,” Snelling said while crying in court.   “And instead of helping him I ended his life, and afterwards I cleaned up and didn’t tell anyone.”   Asked by Judge Diane Minnifield how she ended his life, Snelling admitted, “I deprived him of oxygen.”   Lexington cops responded to an off-campus home Aug. 27, 2025, after her horrified college roommates discovered the dead baby boy wrapped in a towel in a black plastic bag...

  Superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo kicked off his 25th professional season by scoring his 977th career goal after coming off the bench to help Al Nassr cruise to a 4-0 victory on Friday.
