  Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to Oyi Divisional Headquarters, on Friday, June 19, successfully foiled an alleged attempt by a 21-year-old woman to sell her newborn baby.    The police intervention followed a report from a concerned citizen, which led officers to a location in Igbariam, where the young mother and her newborn baby were found. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had concealed both her pregnancy and delivery from her parents. It was further gathered that she had left her family home in Imo State and sought refuge with a friend residing in Igbariam before the alleged plan was uncovered. In the course of the operation, the Police immediately contacted the young woman’s parents, who responded without delay. Following their arrival, the mother and child were reunited with the family to guarantee adequate care, supervision, and emotional support while investigations continue.

  Troops of Operation Enduring Peace working in collaboration with community leaders, have secured the rescue of a kidnap victim who was abducted more than two months ago in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.   The victim, identified as Yahaya Uddido, was abducted on April 9, 2026, at Pikat community in Kanam LGA. Yahaya regained freedom following sustained non-kinetic engagements involving local leaders and troops of Sector 2 of Operation Enduring Peace.   A security source said the collaborative efforts eventually compelled the abductors to abandon the victim in the Kukawa general area, where he was subsequently rescued by troops at about 12:20 p.m. on June 18. “The rescue was achieved through a non-kinetic approach involving continuous engagement and collaboration between community leaders and security forces.   Singer Davido gifted a loyal fan N15 million on Saturday, June 20, following a viral exchange on social media platform, X.   The interaction began when a fan named Abazz (@abazwhylle) posted a tweet celebrating Davido for recently gifting a car to another dedicated follower. An internet troll attempted to mock Abazz, pointing out that he had been supporting the musician online much longer than the car recipient. The critic then added a sarcastic prayer, mockingly asking Davido to "bless" Abazz.   President Donald Trump on Friday unveiled a new Boeing 747-8 jet for Air Force One that the Qatari government donated last year as an "unconditional" gift to the US.   The US military first carried out modifications to the luxury jumbo jet, which is valued at an estimated $400m (£300m). "This plane was transformed into a flying White House at a level of luxury that nobody's ever seen before. The jet will lead a flyover — “the likes of which we’ve never seen before,” Trump said in a speech at Joint Base Andrews on Friday.   The US Air Force said in a press release that the jet will begin initial commissioning flights - a "final exam" to test out the aircraft's modifications - before it will be used to transport the president.   Modifications to the jet included upgrades in security, mission communications, logistics support, and advanced technology, the Air Force said.   As the governorship election in Ekiti state holds today, June 20,  businessman, Isaac Fayose, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of handing over uncollected voters' cards to members of the ruling party, APC. According to him, the APC members in the state, in turn, will hand over the uncollected voters' cards to non-indigenes in the state who will then use the cards to vote for the party. Fayose said the non-indigenes were given N20,000 to cast votes during the election.

  Scientists have detected the H5 strain of bird flu in Australia for the first time, marking the spread of the highly contagious virus to every continent. Australia’s Agriculture Minister, Julie Collins, confirmed that the virus was identified in a migratory brown skua found in a remote part of Western Australia, with a second seabird, a giant petrel, also returning a suspected positive result. The findings were verified by Australia’s national science agency. The detection ends Australia’s status as the last continent free from the H5 strain, which has devastated poultry farms and wild bird populations across the world. “Whilst disappointing, this is not unexpected, given the global spread of the H5 bird flu,” Collins said.   A train driver has died and 89 other people were injured after two passenger trains collided near Bedford on Friday evening, prompting a major emergency response and an investigation into one of the UK's worst rail accidents in recent years. The collision occurred at about 5:15pm on the railway line between Bedford and Luton after a Nottingham-to-London St Pancras service reportedly stopped because of a safety fault and was subsequently struck from behind by a Corby-to-London St Pancras train. Emergency services declared a major incident as police, firefighters, paramedics and multiple air ambulances rushed to the scene. Authorities confirmed that one driver was killed in the crash, while dozens of passengers sustained injuries. Eleven people were reported to have suffered very serious injuries, with a total of 89 casualties treated.
