Former Super Eagles captain and star player turned pundit, Austine Jay-Jay Okocha has criticized the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro for his ‘poor’ treatment of Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye in the senior national team.   Okoye was not included in the 25-man list that will represent Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations despite Nigeria lacking enough talents in the goalkeeping department.  Frank Uzoho, Stanley Nwabili and Olorunleke Ojo are the three goalkeepers named for the tournament, however, Okocha has faulted Peseiro’s treatment of the Udinese goalkeeper.   Okoye was at fault for the only goal of the Nigeria Vs Tunisia game which pushed West African giants out of the Nations Cup.   In a new interview with BBC’s Osasu Obayiuwana, the former Bolton star stated that it was wrong for Peseiro to judge Okoye with the 2021 AFCON blunder in the round of 16.   “[Okoye] is the one keeper who has the type of training and football upbringing that we need in ...

  A retired Texas judge and his wife have been found dead inside their home from shotgun wounds, leading to the arrest of their adult son.   Seth Carnes, 45, was arrested Monday night, Jan. 8,  and charged with capital murder in the slayings of former Williamson County Judge Alfred “Burt” Carnes and Susan Carnes, both 74.   Police say Carnes admitted to the double murders of his parents just before midnight on Monday, Jan. 8, because he did not want to take a sleeping pill.     Seth Carnes allegedly told detectives he did not really know what happened, but was aware that he had shot his parents with a Remington 870 shotgun he kept on the nightstand in his parents’ converted garage, where he lived, according to an arrest affidavit cited by Fox 7 Austin.   The son allegedly said he believed his mother was trying to put a sleeping pill into his mouth that he didn’t want to take.   Former England and Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has announced that he has terminal cancer.  The 75-year-old, who coached the English national team from 2001 to 2006 and spent the 2007-08 season with Manchester City, shared the devastating news on Swedish radio.   He also revealed that doctors had told him he has a year left to live 'at best'. Eriksson won the hearts of England fans when his side defeated rivals Germany 5-1 in Munich in September 2001.   He went on to lead the team at the World Cup in 2002 and 2006 and Euro 2004, reaching the quarter finals in all three tournaments. Eriksson told Sweden's P1 radio station that his cancer diagnosis was made last year after he collapsed while out on a run.   He said: "Everyone understands that I have an illness that is not good. The head of the WHO, the U.N. health agency has said that holiday gatherings and the spread of the most prominent variant globally led to increased transmission of COVID-19 last month. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said nearly 10,000 deaths were reported in December, while hospital admissions during the month jumped 42% in nearly 50 countries mostly in Europe and the Americas — that shared such trend information. “Although 10,000 deaths a month is far less than the peak of the pandemic, this level of preventable deaths is not acceptable,” the World Health Organization director-general told reporters from its headquarters in Geneva.   He said it was “certain” that cases were on the rise in other places that haven’t been reporting, calling on governments to keep up surveillance and provide continued access to treatments and vaccines.   Tedros said the JN.1 variant was now the most prominent in the world. Judges at the International Court of Justice, at the Hague in Netherlands on Thursday opened two days of legal arguments in a case filed by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide in its Gaza war. Israel rejects the allegation.   Lawyers for South Africa asked judges at Thursday’s hearings to impose binding preliminary orders on Israel, including an immediate halt to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. ICJ President Joan E. Donoghue said that South Africa argues that Israeli actions after the October 7 attacks by Hamas “are genocidal in character” and that Israel ”failed to prevent genocide and is committing genocide.” She said South Africa also claims Israel violates “other fundamental obligations under the (U.N.) Genocide Convention.” Ahead of the proceedings, hundreds of pro-Israeli protesters marched close to the courthouse with banners saying “Bring them home,” referring to the hostages still held by Hamas. Rapper Skepta has issued an apology after being accused of using antisemitic imagery as the cover art for his latest single.    Skepta announced his new single 'Gas Me Up' using the image of a guy with a shaved head with the words the title of the single inscribed.     Reacting to the criticism that followed, Skepta completely owned the screwup, apologizing and also explaining what he was going for.    He wrote;    “I’ve been waiting to drop ‘Gas Me Up (Diligent)’ since teasing it April last year, worked hard getting the artwork right for my album rollout which is about my parents coming to the U.K. in the 80’s, Skinhead, Football culture and it has been taken offensively by many. Amalija Knavs, the mother of former US first lady Melania Trump, has died at the age of 78.   Melania was missing from a Trump family Christmas photo featuring her husband, former President Donald Trump, and three of his five children because she had been at Knavs’ side in the hospital.  “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Amalija,” Trump wrote on X Tuesday. “Amalija Knavs was a strong woman who always carried herself with grace, warmth, and dignity. She was entirely devoted to her husband, daughters, grandson, and son-in-law. We will miss her beyond measure and continue to honor and love her legacy.”     Melania Trump did not disclose a cause of death.
