Sunderland footballer, Jack Diamond allegedly raped and sexually assaulted a woman he met on Tinder after she agreed to cuddle with him in bed, a court has been told.     The 23-year-old winger is on trial accused of attacking the woman after he invited her to his house in the northeast town of Washington in 2022.   Newcastle Crown Court heard that the woman told police she messaged a friend following the alleged assaults, fearing that Diamond was contacting his housemate and fellow player about a threesome.      The court was told that when the pair got into bed, while 'it started with cuddling, it became clear that Jack Diamond wanted more'.   Mr. Povall said the woman 'eventually' consented to some sexual activity, and woke up sometime later to Diamond 'caressing her'.   'She asked him to stop and told him she wasn't in the mood, but he persisted,' Mr Povall told jurors.     The court heard Diamond allegedly sexual...

Hamas Deputy Leader Saleh Al-Arouri has been killed in a drone strike that hit the group’s office in Southern Beirut, according to reports. Israel has continued its attack on Gaza since 7 October 2023 when Hamas militants attacked Israel, causing about 1,200 deaths. Over 20,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the Israeli invasion.   According to Lebanon’s state media on Tuesday, January 2, the Hamas office was the target of the drone attack in southern Beirut. Mr Al-Arouri and at least three others were killed in the attack.  The 57-year-old leader had served several terms in Israeli jails and was released in March 2010 as part of efforts to reach a larger prisoner swap for Gilad Shalit, an Israel Defense Force (IDF) corporal kidnapped by Hamas in 2006. Days after being accused of sexual assault by singer, Paula Abdul, v eteran TV producer Nigel Lythgoe has also been accused of sexually assaulting and harassing 2 contestants 20 years ago on a reality competition show.   The women were contestants on the show, “All American Girl”, which aired for one season in 2003; and Lythgoe was a producer on the program.   The women alleged that that he would repeatedly show up on the set, and in dressing rooms, when they were wearing dance costumes and "openly swatted and groped" their butts.   The women who are filing as Jane Does, claimed that when production hosted a party to celebrate the end of filming, Lythgoe insisted one of the women ride with him back to the studio where everyone else on the cast was going at the end of the party.  The second plaintiff insisted on going with them to protect her fellow contestant, but they alleged Lythgoe drove them back to his home, where he made sexual advances on both of ...

Junior doctors in England on Wednesday January 3, began the longest strike in NHS history as figures revealed that more than 337,000 appointments and operations had been cancelled in London due to the strike. Thousands of medics in the British Medical Association began a six-day walkout in hospitals across the country at 7am in a bitter dispute over pay.  Health bosses fear that the strikes will affect almost all routine services as the NHS shifts its focus to urgent and emergency care. It comes after talks between Health Secretary Victoria Atkins and the BMA broke down last month, with the Government insisting that negotiations would not resume unless the union called off strike action.  Analysis by the Standard found that more than 337,000 inpatient and outpatient appointments had been rescheduled in London over a year of industrial action in the NHS. Royal Antwerp midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf has been drafted in as a replacement for Leicester City midfielder, who has been ruled out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury.   Ndidi missed Leicester City’s 4-1 home win over Huddersfield Town on Monday January 1, due to the injury.Yusuf, who was on the provisional 41-man list will now take his place in the team. The talented midfielder is yet to be capped by the Super Eagles.   The 23-year-old is now expected to join the team in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates today, January 3.  

A large airliner carrying 367 passengers exploded at an airport near Tokyo on Tuesday, January 2, just a day after a brutal 7.6 magnitude earthquake devastated the west coast of Japan.     The plane engulfed in a raging inferno on the runway at Haneda Airport, in Ota City, Tokyo. The airliner collided with a coastguard plane carrying earthquake aid as it came into land, Japanese TV reported, with the collision triggering a massive explosion.   A Japan Airlines spokesperson reportedly told NHK that all 367 passengers aboard the aircraft at the time of the explosion were successfully evacuated from the plane.      Five out of six Japan Coast Guard crew members on the aircraft that collided with the Japan Airlines aircraft were initially missing, according to TBS Television.     The condition of the five missing crew from the Japanese Coast Guard aircraft who have all been found is not yet known.     Th...

Saudi Arabia executed 170 people in 2023, including four on New Year's Eve, according to an AFP tally based on announcements by Saudi authorities. The four people executed on Sunday, December 31, had been convicted of murder, the official Saudi Press Agency reported, citing statements from the interior ministry.     They included two in the north-western city of Tabuk, one in the capital Riyadh, and one in Jazan in the south-west.     Those executed throughout 2023 included 33 people accused of terrorism-related crimes and two soldiers convicted of treason. There were 38 executions in December, the deadliest month.     A total of 147 convicts were executed in 2022, while a record of 187 executions took place in the kingdom in 2019.     In 2022, Saudi Arabia executed more people than any other country besides China and Iran, Amnesty International has said.
