A man accused of killing nearly two dozen older women, and convicted of murdering two, was killed Tuesday morning, Sept. 19, by his cellmate at a Texas prison, an official said. Billy Chemirmir, 50, was serving two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole when he was found dead in his cell, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Hannah Haney said. Chemirmir’s cellmate, who is serving a sentence for murder, was identified as the assailant, but Haney said she couldn’t release the cellmate’s identity or how Chemirmir was killed. Chemirmir, a former healthcare worker, allegedly killed 13 elderly women in their homes in Dallas County and nine women in Collin County, the  Dallas Morning News reported. Chemirmir is accused of smothering the women at their homes or senior centers and then stealing their jewelry to sell. The deaths of many of the women were initially ruled as natural causes.   Rwandan President Paul Kagame has said he plans to run for a fourth term in elections due to be held next year. A former rebel chief, Kagame became president in April 2000 but has been regarded as the country’s de facto leader since the end of the 1994 genocide.  He was returned to office with more than 90 percent of the vote in elections in 2003, 2010, and 2017.   “Yes, I am indeed a candidate,” Kagame, who has ruled over the country with an iron fist for decades, told Jeune Afrique, a French-language news magazine, in an interview published online on Tuesday, September 19.   “I am pleased with the confidence that Rwandans have placed in me. I will always serve them, as long as I can,” the 65-year-old was quoted as saying. Manchester United have denied reports that their players were involved in a furious dressing room bust-up after their 3-1 loss at home to Brighton over the weekend.      The disappointing defeat to the Seagulls at Old Trafford saw them drop down to 13th place in the Premier League, with club legend Gary Neville claiming the club had a 'culture of greed and ill discipline' that was brought about by the Glazer family's ownership.        The Sun have now claimed that in the aftermath of the latest defeat, four stars were involved in a dressing room bust-up.     The report alleges that captain Bruno Fernandes was one of the main high-profile stars involved after confronting team-mate Scott McTominay.     Defenders Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof - who both played 90 minutes together - are also said to have 'lost it with each other', with manager Ten Hag 'trying to restore order' as a post-match inquest began.  ...

Chioma Nnadi, a 44-year-old journalist of Nigerian and Swiss-German descent has been named as the new head of editorial content at British Vogue. She will be taking over from Edward Enninful, the editor-in-chief who enjoyed a six-year tenure as both the prestigious fashion magazine’s first male and first black editor. Enninful announced his resignation in June. Nnadi who is currently the editor of the New York-based Vogue, will be known as head of editorial content, rather than editor-in-chief. She has spent 13 years as a writer and news director for the magazine.   Nnadi’s appointment also makes her the first black female head of the industry-leading fashion magazine.

YouTube has stopped British comedian Russell Brand from being able to earn any money through his channel for violating its ’'Creator Responsibility policy' amid allegations of rape and sexual abuse. The 48-year-old produces around five videos a week for his 6.6million subscribers, earning him an estimated £1million a year.  Under the terms of his suspension, he will still be allowed to post videos on the platform but will not receive any of the advertising revenue.   French defender,  Benjamin Mendy has made his return to football after two years out of the game.   The former Manchester City and France defender came off the bench for Lorient as a second-half substitute against ex-side Monaco in Ligue 1.  Mendy, 29, had been accused of carrying out sex attacks on two women at his £4million mansion. He was cleared after three hours of deliberation by a jury at Chester Crown Court in July - and broke down in the dock afterwards before saying he was 'delighted' with the not guilty verdicts.   He came on as a substitute for Lorient in the 71st minute of their game on Sunday, September 17.  Mendy signed for Lorient five days after his trial ended in the summer.     He signed a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 side following his release from Manchester City, where he made 75 appearances after joining in 2017 for £52million.   The left-back had been acquitted of six rapes and one sexual assault rating to...

  Former Super Falcons striker, Desire Oparanozie has been conferred with honourary membership of the Imo State Football Association. Oparanozie disclosed this on her X handle on Monday morning September 18 . "Over the weekend I was conferred as an Honorary member of the Imo State Football Association,” Oparanozie wrote. “Special appreciation to the Imo State FA Chairman and it’s executive committee members for such an honour. A recognition I do no take for granted. Long live Imo State.“ Last week Oparanozie announced her retirement from professional football.   She helped the Falcons win four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.   The 29-year-old was part of the Super Falcons squad that featured at the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.   It was her fourth appearance at the World Cup after making her debut at the 2011 edition in Germany.
