Former Barcelona right-back, Douglas Pereira has been arrested after shooting a gun into the air in a car park in Brazil.   Brazilian publication Globo Esporte reported that the 32-year-old is facing trial after the incident which allegedly took place on April 21 in the country's capital of Brasilia.   It is claimed that the former Brazil U20 international had been drinking on a boat at Lake Paranoa which he left after falling out with the other people on it.   According to Football Espana, Douglas then walked through a forested area with an unauthorised gun and came to the sports campus of Club Esportives Sul.   Security at the facility are said to have asked him to leave the area after he confronted several people 'aggressively' - before he fired the gun into the air in a car park.   The player is then said to have hid the pistol in a nearby bush and was arrested by police - though the gun was not located.   Douglas was reportedly detained and re...

Germany has fallen into recession after a high inflation rate took a bigger toll on the country’s economy than originally estimated.  Output in Europe’s largest economy dropped 0.3% in the first three months of the year, following a 0.5% contraction at the end of 2022, official data showed on Thursday, May 25.    The Federal Statistical Office downgraded its previous estimate of zero growth in gross domestic product compared with the previous quarter. A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of declining output.   T he figures are a blow to the German government, which last month boldly doubled its growth forecast for this year after a feared winter energy crunch failed to materialise.   Diran Onifade, the spokesperson of the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said he believes he could still get justice in court even after president-elect, Bola Tinubu, is sworn in on May 29. Obi who is currently challenging the emergence of Tinubu as winner of the February 25 presidential election, said this in an interview with The Sun.  Pre-trials at the Presidential Election Tribunal ended on Tuesday May 22, while trial proper have been slated to begin on Tuesday, May 30.   American rapper, Fetty Wap has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in a large-scale drug trafficking scheme that saw narcotics shipped from the West Coast and sold in New Jersey and Long Island.   The 31-year-old rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was sentenced in federal court in Central Islip, New York, for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.   Maxwell, who is from Paterson, New Jersey, was initially arrested in October 2021 on charges that he allegedly participated in a drug smuggling conspiracy involving heroin, fentanyl and other drugs.    He pleaded guilty in August to a top charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances pertaining to cocaine. A 40-year-old man whose legs were paralyzed in a cycling accident 12 years ago can now walk thanks to implants in his brain and spinal cord. In 2011, a cycling accident left Gert-Jan Oskam, with paralysed legs and partially paralysed arms, after his spinal cord was damaged in his neck.
