A wild male lion believed to be oldest in Africa and one of the world's oldest, has died after being speared by herders, authorities in Kenya have said. Loonkiito, who was 19, died in Olkelunyiet village on Wednesday night, May 10 after preying on livestock. The village borders Amboseli National Park - in southern Kenya.  Conservation group Lion Guardians said he was "the oldest male lion in our ecosystem and possibly in Africa". Most lions live to around 13 in the wild. Almost all lions live in Africa with a small population in India, according to the World Wildlife Federation.   Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) spokesperson Paul Jinaro said on Friday May 12, that the lion was old and frail and wandered into the village from the park in search of food.   Jinaro didn't confirm if he was the oldest lion in the country but noted he was "very old".   The average lifespan of a lion is about 13 years in the wild, although they can live much longer in captivity...

  The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arraigned High Priest Nnodu Azuka Kenrick, the founder and General Overseer of Seraphic and Sabbath Assembly, and two others before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State, for drug trafficking.    The High Priest, his co-defendants Udezuka Udoka and Oyoyo Mary Obasi, were arraigned before Justice Akintayo Aluko, on Friday, May 12, 2023, on a count-charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of the hard drugs.    While the High Priest was arraigned on fourth count-charge of conspiracy, unlawful export of 14.90 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and Methamphetamine and procuring both Udoka and Oyoyo to unlawfully export the drugs, the duo were arraigned on all the count charge of conspiracy, unlawful export of the drug.    The prosecutor, Mr. Abu Ibrahim told the court that they committed the offences with one Chisom, now at large, on February 9, 2023.   Mr. Ibrahim told the court t...

Buckingham Palace has released new coronation portraits of King Charles III, his son, Prince William, and his grandson, Prince George of Wales posing together. Israel's military, the Israel Defence Forces, for the first time, apologized for the death of Al Jazeera’s journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh. Their apology came after a year she was shot dead while covering an Israeli military operation in Jenin in the occupied West Bank.  The journalist was tragically gunned down on May 11, 2022, while another journalist Ali Al Samudi who was present with Akleh was also shot.   “I think it’s an opportunity for me to say here that we are very sorry for the death of Shireen Abu Akleh,” IDF’s chief spokesman, Rear Adm. Twitter boss, Elon Musk revealed he's hired a woman to take over from him as the new chief executive officer. Musk, who bought Twitter in October 2022, tweeted: 'Excited to announce that I’ve a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! 'My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO (chief technology officer), overseeing product, software & sysops.'     Musk has not yet revealed the identity of his new CEO. He has slashed around 70 percent of Twitter's staff since buying the firm for $44 billion, including its entire executive team. Musk is also the CEO of Tesla and rocket maker SpaceX. A senior lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, Mike Ozekhome, has expressed fears that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), might die in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) if he is not released. Ozekhome expressed his concerns while speaking to judges at the Supreme court during the hearing of Kanu's case on Thursday, May 11.   The Senior lawyer told the apex court that Kanu is very sick and requires a surgical operation, hence should be released immediately. The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have been eliminated from the ongoing U-17 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The Nigerians lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso in the quarter-final match held at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Algiers, Algeria, on Thursday evening, May 11. Burkina Faso found the back of the net when forward Camara slotted home from close range following sloppy play and missed chances from the Eaglets.   Camara later grabbed a brace from the penalty spot 12 minutes into the second half.   Nigeria's Abubakar Abdullahi gave the Golden Eaglets little hope in the 67th minute when he reduced his team’s deficit off a cross from substitute Daniel.   The 2 -1 result meant the Golden Eaglets won’t feature in the under-17 World Cup that would take place later this year, with Burkina Faso completing the quartet of teams to represent Africa in the tournament.
