Israel's military, the Israel Defence Forces, for the first time, apologized for the death of Al Jazeera’s journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh. Their apology came after a year she was shot dead while covering an Israeli military operation in Jenin in the occupied West Bank.  The journalist was tragically gunned down on May 11, 2022, while another journalist Ali Al Samudi who was present with Akleh was also shot.   “I think it’s an opportunity for me to say here that we are very sorry for the death of Shireen Abu Akleh,” IDF’s chief spokesman, Rear Adm. Twitter boss, Elon Musk revealed he's hired a woman to take over from him as the new chief executive officer. Musk, who bought Twitter in October 2022, tweeted: 'Excited to announce that I’ve a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! 'My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO (chief technology officer), overseeing product, software & sysops.'     Musk has not yet revealed the identity of his new CEO. He has slashed around 70 percent of Twitter's staff since buying the firm for $44 billion, including its entire executive team. Musk is also the CEO of Tesla and rocket maker SpaceX. Shortly after the announcement, Tesla's shares reportedly jumped more than 2 percent, in a sign that investors were pleased about the move.  A group of shareholders publicly urged the board in April to ensure that Musk dedicated more time to the company. A senior lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, Mike Ozekhome, has expressed fears that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), might die in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) if he is not released. Ozekhome expressed his concerns while speaking to judges at the Supreme court during the hearing of Kanu's case on Thursday, May 11.   The Senior lawyer told the apex court that Kanu is very sick and requires a surgical operation, hence should be released immediately. The lawyer asked the court to rule in favor of the transfer of Kanu from DSS custody to Kuje correctional center so that he can begin treatment.   “My Lords, Nnamdi Kanu is sick, he has been approved for surgery but they have refused to release him for treatment. The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have been eliminated from the ongoing U-17 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The Nigerians lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso in the quarter-final match held at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Algiers, Algeria, on Thursday evening, May 11. Burkina Faso found the back of the net when forward Camara slotted home from close range following sloppy play and missed chances from the Eaglets.   Camara later grabbed a brace from the penalty spot 12 minutes into the second half.   Nigeria's Abubakar Abdullahi gave the Golden Eaglets little hope in the 67th minute when he reduced his team’s deficit off a cross from substitute Daniel.   The 2 -1 result meant the Golden Eaglets won’t feature in the under-17 World Cup that would take place later this year, with Burkina Faso completing the quartet of teams to represent Africa in the tournament. The other teams are Senegal, Mali, and Morocco.

Former US President Donald Trump is appealing after a New York jury found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming a writer who now says she might sue him for the third time. Trump's lawyers filed a notice of appeal in the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday afternoon, May 11, less than 48 hours after a Manhattan jury awarded $5million to columnist E Jean Carroll. Carroll claimed that Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in New York in the mid-1990s.  Jurors on Tuesday found Trump guilty, ordering him to pay roughly $2million in damages to Carroll for civil battery, and nearly $3million for her successfully proving that he defamed her by calling her case 'a complete con job' and 'a Hoax and a lie'.   Newspaper stories that Prince Harry claims are from phone hacking actually came from fellow members of the Royal Family and even his own interviews, the High Court heard yesterday. The Duke of Sussex is suing the publisher of the Daily Mirror, claiming he was the victim of unlawful information gathering, such as phone hacking.   But the publisher told the judge that many of the stories actually came from other royals or palace courtiers – and that one of the articles he complains about was based on an on-the-record interview Harry himself gave.   The newspaper denies hacking Harry's phone, setting the scene for a courtroom clash with the duke, who will become the first senior British royal since 1890 to give evidence in a court.   He is due to take to the witness box in the case early next month to be questioned about his claims he was repeatedly hacked by Mirror Group Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror, and The People.
