The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared that Covid-19 is no longer a "global health emergency". The WHO’s International Health Regulations Emergency Committee took the decision at its 15th meeting on Covid-19 on Thursday, May 4.   Speaking at a conference on Friday, May 5, the WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he concurs that the public health emergency of international concern, or PHEIC, declaration should end. “For more than a year the pandemic has been on a downward trend. This trend has allowed most countries to return to life as we knew it before Covid-19,” Tedros said. “Yesterday, the emergency committee met for the 15th time and recommended to me that I declare an end to the public health emergency of international concern. The Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, UK, has sentenced former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, to nine years and eight months in prison for organ trafficking.    The court also sentenced his wife, Beatrice, to four years and six months jail term.  The doctor helping the couple out, Dr Obinna Obeta was sentenced to 10 years in prison.   Recall that on March 23, the court found Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and their doctor, Obinna Obeta, guilty of trafficking a trader from Nigeria to the UK to harvest his organ, a crime under the United Kingdom Modern Slavery act 2015. The jury held that they conspired to bring the 21-year-old to London to exploit him for his kidney.   The verdict is the first of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 of the UK.

Sonia Pizarro , famous for her starring role on the reality TV show “Operation Repo” is dead.  Sonia's niece, Lyndah Pizarro who confirmed her death, said she died in her sleep on Wednesday evening May 3, in Arizona.  While she's most known for her work on the TruTV series, 60-year-old Sonia also acted in movies including 2009's "Repo Chick" and, most recently, the 2018 flick “Followed.”   Sonia has had major health issues in the past. In May 2018, she was hospitalized after suffering a stroke.   Sonia leaves behind 3 children, Ruby, Robert and Froylan Jr., as well as her grandchildren; Bryant, Brie and Danica.

A man accused of killing one woman and injuring four others at a hospital in Atlanta on Wednesday, May 3, has been arrested following an hours-long manhunt, police said. Deion Patterson, 24, was taken into custody at a condominium complex in nearby Cobb County without incident, officials said at a Wednesday night news conference announcing his arrest. Around midday, Patterson went inside the Northside Hospital medical facility and began shooting, police said. The suspect had become agitated while waiting for an appointment when he pulled out a handgun and opened fire, a law enforcement source said.   After leaving the building, located in Atlanta's Midtown neighborhood, the suspect allegedly stole an unattended truck at a nearby gas station and drove north to Cobb County. At least eight students and a security guard are dead after a shooting at a school in Serbia's capital, Belgrade.   A teenage boy opened fire at a school in Serbia's capital Wednesday, May 3, killing eight children and a school guard, police said. Six more children and a teacher were injured and hospitalized.   Police identified the shooter by his initials, K.K., and said he had opened fire with his father's gun. He was arrested in the schoolyard, police said.   A statement identified him as a student at the school in central Belgrade who was born in 2009.   Police said they received a call about the shooting at the Vladislav Ribnikar primary school around 8:40 a.m. Primary schools in Serbia have eight grades, starting with first grade. A woman who accused Donald Trump of molesting her on an airplane during a flight in the late 1970s testified Tuesday May 2, in support of the writer E. Jean Carroll, who alleges that a flirtatious 1996 encounter with the future U.S. president ended in a violent sexual attack.   Jessica Leeds, 81, of Asheville, N.C., said Trump accosted her with what seemed like "40 zillion hands." She joined other witnesses who supported the testimony of Carroll, a longtime advice columnist who publicly aired her claims against Trump in 2019, when she published her memoir. Trump has repeatedly denied the claims, saying Carroll lied to sell books and disparage him.   The witnesses were meant to support Carroll's testimony that Trump raped her in the dressing room of a luxury department store in midtown Manhattan.
