A newborn baby girl dumped inside a pit latrine within Rioma Catholic Church compound in Marani, Kisii county of Kenya has been rescued by the police.    The National Police Service (NPS) said the baby estimated to be four days old was retrieved from the latrine by police officers from Rioma Police Station on Tuesday, April 18.   This came after a local alerted the police about hearing a baby crying inside the latrine at around 2:30 pm on Tuesday.    A statement released by the police read;    "Police at Rioma Police Station responded to report made by a member of public, that there was a voice of an infant emanating from a pit latrine, within Rioma Catholic Church compound.   A bombshell $787m settlement has been reached in the defamation trial between Dominion Voting Systems and Fox News .   The settlement ended a dispute over whether the network and its parent company knowingly broadcast false and outlandish allegations that Dominion was involved in a plot to steal the 2020 election.   Dominion sued Fox News in 2021, demanding $1.6 billion in damages.   Aja Volkman, wife of Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds has filed for divorce from him after 10 years of marriage.    TMZ reported that Volkman filed the documents on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, in Los Angeles, nearly one year after they announced their separation.   The Radioactive singer, 35, and Nico Vega frontwoman, 43, tied the knot in March 2011. The pair welcomed daughter Arrow in August 2012 and later welcomed twin daughters Gia and Coco in March 2017.   The Federal Government will be increasing the excise tax on tobacco products from 30 per cent ad-valorem to 50 per cent.  This was disclosed by Head of Tobacco Control Unit, Noncommunicable Disease Division, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Mangai Malau, on Tuesday, April 18, at the National Tobacco Control Budget Advocates Meeting in Abuja. Police in Chicago, Illinois, USA have arrested a man who allegedly robbed the same retail business 11 times between December 2022 and April.   Chicago Police Department officials said in a press release on Tuesday,  April 18 that Donte Elbert, 36, of Chicago was arrested on West Belmont Avenue. "He was taken into custody b/c he tried to pass the last point of sale…without paying for merchandise," a representative for the Chicago Police Department told Fox News Digital. The police added that the personnel at the store Elbert robbed 11 times, which is located on the 3200 block of N. Clark Street, signed formal complaints, which led to his arrest. Elbert also allegedly stole merchandise from a different location on the 3200 block of N. Broadway. He now faces nine felony counts of retail theft of merchandise less than $300, three felony counts of retail theft of merchandise with a value of more than $300, and one misdemeanor count of criminal trespassing.   ...

An official of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement, TRACE, Corps, Popola Olasupo has been abducted by yet-to-be-identified persons. Olasupo was reportedly kidnapped at about 6.30 am on Sunday, April 16, around the Eledumare-Fidiwo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.   The official was on his way to his duty post alongside one other member of the traffic corps when the gunmen emerged from the bush and opened fire on a commercial bus the official was travelling in.   He was the only one abducted.   Policemen and some vigilantes are currently on the trail of the suspected kidnappers.   The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident. He said the command’s anti-kidnapping squad was already after the kidnappers.
