  Leadership of Transatlantic military alliance, NATO says it has ‘seen signs’ indicating Russia has asked for lethal aid from China. Launching his annual report for 2022 on Tuesday, March 21, NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg said: ‘We haven’t seen proof that China is delivering lethal weapons to Russia. ‘But we have seen some signs that this has been requested from Russia and it is something that is being considered in Beijing by the Chinese authorities.’   His statement came as Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived in Russia for his high-profile visit to Russian President Vladimir Putin.   Few details have been released on what the two leaders will discuss, but a 12-point peace plan for the war in Ukraine was published by China less than a month ago.   Stoltenberg, who was speaking at the Nato headquarters in Brussels, said: ‘Our message has been that China should not provide lethal aid to Russia. ‘That would be to support an illegal war, and only pro...

  Ugandan lawmakers have passed a law that prescribes a punishment of up to 10 years in prison for identifying as LGBTQ+, among other things.   The new legislation constitutes a further crackdown on LGBTQ+ people in a country where same-sex relations are already illegal. A strong magnitude earthquake felt across thousands of kilometres in Afghanistan and Pakistan, has killed at least 12 people on Wednesday, March 22. The magnitude 6.5 quake was centred near Jurm in northeastern Afghanistan, according to the US Geological Survey, but the depth of 187 kilometres (116 miles) reduced extensive damage.  The quake, which struck around 09:30 p.m. Kabul time on Tuesday and lasted more than 30 seconds, was felt from Central Asia to New Delhi, India a distance of over 2,000 kilometres. “It was a powerful earthquake and we feared maximum damage due to the intensity — that’s why we issued an alert,” Bilal Faizi, a spokesman for Pakistan’s emergency Rescue 1122 service in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, told AFP. “But fortunately our fears proved wrong. Former Arsenal and Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil has announced his retirement from professional football, aged 34. The former Germany international had been playing for Turkish top-flight side Istanbul Basaksehir since joining in the summer but has only made eight appearances for the club following injury problems.   Back issues have largely caused the playmaker to feature in only 187 minutes of football this term having moved from Fenerbahce following 18 months at the club.   Ozil revealed the news on Instagram in a statement reading:    'Hello everyone, After thoughtful consideration, l'm announcing my immediate retirement from professional football. Marvin Gaye III has filed for divorce just two months after he was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at his wife. It was reported earlier that Marvin III allegedly physically assaulted his wife and cousin during a January 12 argument inside his Calabasas home.   Wendy later got a restraining order against her husband after claiming he grabbed her by the neck and lifted her off the ground before her cousin intervened, only for Marvin III to begin physically attacking both women. Wendy also says Marvin III pointed a gun at them.   He turned himself in and was booked on two charges; felony assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor domestic violence.
