Cristiano Ronaldo's partner Georgina Rodriguez has treated the footballer to a lavish Christmas gift by buying him a Rolls Royce.  The 37-year-old, who is currently without a club, has been spending time with his family this holiday season after returning from a disappointing World Cup run in Qatar.     Ronaldo shared an Instagram story that showed him and Rodriguez, along with their daughter, seated in a luxurious £300,000-worth Rolls Royce with the words: "Thank you, my love." Rodriguez posted a full-length video on her page that showed the moment she gave him the surprise, and how he reacted to the luxury gift.  This isn't the first time this year that she's gifted Cristiano Ronaldo a car, having also surprised him with a $100,000-worth Cadillac Escalade on his 37th birthday in February.

Leader of the Roman Catholic church, Pope Francis on Sunday December 25, appealed for an end to the "senseless" war in Ukraine, in his traditional Christmas message from St Peter's Basilica at the Vatican.   The 86-year-old also warned the 10-month-old conflict is increasing food shortages around the world, urging an end to the use of "food as a weapon"  He addressed thousands of faithful gathered in St Peter's Square, some of them holding Ukrainian flags, before delivering the "Urbi et Orbi" blessing ("to the city and the world"). Three people have been confirmed dead after a Nigerien military helicopter crashed on return from a routine training flight.  The country's defence ministry said the helicopter crashed while landing at an airport in the capital Niamey on Monday, December 26, killing three people on board including an expatriate instructor. The wreckage burst into flames, blocking rescuers from reaching the crew.  Reuters reported that a commission of inquiry has been set up to determine the cause of the accident.

Former US President, Donald Trump responded publicly Friday night, December 23 to the final report released by the House Jan. 6 committee, attacking the committee and refuting its findings that he was ultimately responsible for the insurrection at the Capitol.   "The unselect committee [sic] did not produce a single shred of evidence that I in any way intended or wanted violence at our Capitol," Trump said of the voluminous report in a video posted to Truth Social.   "The evidence does not exist because the claim is baseless and a monstrous lie." Trump, in the five-minute video, repeatedly downplayed the deadly events of Jan. 6 and said that the doors to the Capitol were "flung open for people to walk in" and that "federal informants" played a role in the violence.  "The events of Jan. 6 were not an insurrection," Trump said. Football star, George Cohen, who played for England in the 1966 World cup has died, aged 83. The right-back played every minute of the six matches in the 1966 tournament and was vice-captain for the 4-2 win over West Germany in the Wembley final.   He spent his entire club career with Fulham and won 37 caps for England. "Very sad to hear my friend and England team-mate has died," said Sir Geoff Hurst, who is one of the two surviving members of the team that started the final, along with Sir Bobby Charlton.   "Everyone, without exception, always said that George was such a lovely man.   Paul Pogba's brother,  Mathias has been released from prison after being arrested and charged in September over an alleged extortion plot against his brother and former Manchester United midfielder.    Mathias Pogba’s lawyer Me Yassine Bouzrou confirmed his client’s release to Le Parisien and BFMTV, with the 32-year-old having been in pre-trial detention since his arrest.   An initial request for release had been denied back in September.   Four other people were also placed under formal investigation for extortion and criminal association.   Paul told police that the gang had been threatening him since March and were demanding £11m for 'protection services'.   Paul reportedly paid £100,000 to the group to 'save time', after he was threatened by masked, armed men in a Paris apartment while on international duty - only to see another multi-million demand issued.   Mathias Pogba has insisted he...

Former US president, Barack Obama has added three songs from Nigerian artistes – Burna Boy, Rema and Ayra Starr to his favourite music of 2022. Obama listed 25 of his favourite songs for the year and Burna Boy’s Last Last, Ayra’s Rush and Rema’s Calm Down made the list from Nigeria.   The ex-US president disclosed this on his Twitter page on Saturday December 24, saying he enjoyed sharing the list.   “I always enjoy sharing my end of year music playlist with all of you — and this year we heard a lot of great songs.
