  A 28-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, serving in Igara Local Government Area of Edo State, Adamu Shaibu, has been sentenced to nine years imprisonment over offences bordering cybercrime and possession of fraudulent funds.   Shaibu, an indigene of Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State was convicted alongside four others: Olasupo Abdullateef Olawale, from Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State, Aguh Henry Chicherem from Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, one Ridwan Abiodun Abdulganiyu and Qozeem Shuaib from Ilorin West local Government Area of Kwara State, before Justice Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin.   The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, October 17, 2022 arraigned the defendants on separate charge, to which they all pleaded guilty.   Count one of the charge against Adamu reads:   "That you, Adamu Shaibu, between April and Aug...

A 48-year-old man was pushed in front of an oncoming subway train and killed during Monday night’s rush hour after he accidentally bumped into another rider, cops and police sources said.   The incident occurred on October 17 in Queens, New York.   The suspect's cell phone dropped onto the tracks when the victim bumped into him at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue 74th Street station just before 4:45 p.m., according to cops and the sources.   The 50-year-old man who was bumped into then yelled at the other man to retrieve his phone from the tracks, sources said.   The man who bumped into him refused and the pair got into a scuffle.   The man who lost his phone then pushed the victim, identified as Heriberto Quintana, down to the tracks, in front of an oncoming Jamaica-bound F train, according to sources and police.   "I heard a loud argument, an altercation. A former Liverpool footballer has been jailed for eight years after he became a cocaine dealer since quitting the professional game.   Midfielder Layton Maxwell was just 19 when he scored on his debut at Anfield after coming through the ranks with England stars Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. But his career never took off and he decided to join a cocaine crime gang.    A court heard Maxwell, now 43, allowed a multi-million-pound drugs gang to use his home in Cardiff as a safehouse for storing drugs in a £6m racket.   Organised crime officers found drugs, cash, and weighing equipment at his house and prosecutors said he was paid £500-a-month for his role as a 'courier' for gang bosses. He was arrested as part of a UK-wide investigation called Operation Venetic into organised crime which saw millions pounds worth of drugs and cash seized. Gonzalo Higuain broke down in tears after playing the final match to end his football career.   The 34-year-old's final game ended in a disappointing 3-0 defeat for Inter Miami against New York City FC in the first round of the MLS play-offs on Monday night, October 17.   Earlier this month, Higuain announced that he would retire when Inter Miami's season came to an end and at the final whistle, he broke down in tears as the curtain came down on a great career.     He scored 121 goals in 264 matches for Real Madrid after they bought him from River Plate in his homeland, helping the Bernabeu club to three Spanish titles.   Higuain later joined Napoli and continued to score at a prolific rate over three seasons there before joining Juventus in 2016.   While in Turin, he helped his team win three Serie A championships and reach the Champions League final in 2017.   He briefly spent time on loan at Chelsea, winning ...
