World 200 metres bronze medallist, Alex Quinonez has been killed in Ecuador, his home country. The 32-year-old finished third at the World Championships in Doha two years ago to become the first Ecuadorian athlete to win a global medal in a track event. According to the BBC, Quinonez was shot along with another person outside a shopping centre in the city of Guayaquil on Friday night October 22. The Ecuadorian sports ministry announced the news in a statement on its Twitter feed, saying: 'Today we lost a great athlete, a person who made us dream, who made us excited.' 'The National Police are at the scene and the authorities are conducting the corresponding investigations. A police inspector has been killed while another was injured when gunmen attacked Unwana Divisional Headquarters station in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The yet to be identified gunmen numbering about 35 attacked the police station at about 3am on Sunday, October 24.  Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Odah Loveth Obianuju, who confirmed the incident in a statement said one of the gunmen was shot dead during the ensuing gun battle, adding that the injured police inspector is responding to treatment in the hospital. In an interview to publicise his new autobiography, Evra told The Times on Friday the abuse took place when he was a 13-year-old schoolboy. The Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo town in Oyo State was on Friday invaded by gunmen. Punch correspondent gathered that the gunmen attacked the facility with explosives around 10.30pm and set the inmates free. A search by security operatives for the fleeing inmates has begun.  The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command of Nigerian Correctional Services, Lanre Anjonrin, confirmed the attack, saying, “I am there now and we are assessing the level of damage done.
