Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has stated he hopes Nigeria can secure an early qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.   The Super Eagles won their opening two games against the Lone Star of Liberia and Blue Sharks of Cape Verde early this month..   Rohr’s team will now face Central African Republic in a double-header next month with the first fixture to be staged at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.   In the 2018 FIFA world cup in Russia, the Super Eagles were the first African country to secure a place at the last world cup    “We always want to qualify quickly as possible,” Rohr told ESPN.   “We look forward to continue our good football to qualify early and to have this team spirit, which is interesting for me and to the country to have fighting players.”

Nottingham Forest have sacked Chris Hughton after six defeats in their opening seven league games left the club bottom of the Championship with one point, making him the first manager axed this season. After leading Forest  to a worst start to a season in 108 years, Hughton's final game in charge was a 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough at the City Ground on Wednesday.   A statement from the club said: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as first-team manager.   "The club would like to place on record its appreciation for Chris' efforts. Governors from the Southern region of the country are currently meeting in Enugu state.    Governors who have arrived at the meeting include Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos; Emmanuel Udo of Akwa Ibom; Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State; Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; and Bayelsa’s Douye Diri and they were received at the Government House in Enugu by the host, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.     It is expected that the Governors will deliberate on the ongoing Value Added Tax (VAT) battle between states and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), open grazing and security issues.     The meeting is being convened,  two months after the governors met in Lagos State where they reached a resolution including banning open grazing and the presidency coming to the Southern region.

Rapper G-Eazy has been arrested after a brawl outside the Boom Boom Room at the Standard Hotel in New York City around 12:50 a.m. Friday September 10.  While TMZ reported earlier that G-Eazy was named as a suspect in a police report with no arrest made, PageSix and People have reported that he was arrested and charged with assault and issued a desk appearance ticket for both arrests. He’ll go before a judge at a later date. Though he is currently not in custody, the New York Police Department confirmed that a 32-year-old man was punched and suffered redness and swelling to the head, but refused medical attention. A 29-year-old male was also punched. The recent incident comes after G-Eazy was convicted of assault, drug possession and resisting arrest following a nightclub brawl in 2018.

Football legend, Pele has been moved out of intensive care as the Brazil football great continues his recovery from surgery . The 80-year-old three-time World Cup winner has been in the Alberto Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo since doctors removed a tumour from his colon earlier this month. However, he confirmed in a post on Instagram that he has now left intensive care and even joked that he was now ready to play '90 minutes and extra time!'   He said: 'My friends, this is a message for each of you. Don't think for a minute that I haven't read the thousands of loving messages I've received around here. 'Thank you very much to each one of you, who dedicated a minute of your day to send me positive energy. 'Love, love and love! I have already left the intensive care unit and I am in my room. Enyimba FC have unveiled former Nigeria international, Finidi George, as their new head coach. In a social media post on Wednesday, the club confirmed the appointment with the caption, “How great is it to have a legend as an Elephant”.     The former Ajax and Real Betis winger, who replaces Fatai Osho whose contract expired at the end of August, joined the eight times Nigerian champions on a two-year contract. The eight-time Nigerian champions finished second in the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). This means George and his team will play in the CAF Champions League next season. George, a legend of Nigeria’s men’s senior national team, made 62 appearances for the Super Eagles during his illustrious playing career that lasted up to fifteen years. He a member of the squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 and represented the country at two FIFA World Cups – the 1994 and 1998 editions.

A Nigerian tech expert, David Gbodi Odaibo has reportedly died in his sleep, 7 days after winning a $125 million (approximately N69billion) U.S government contract.  His brother and CEO of Retina-AI Health Incorporation, Mr. Stephen Odaibo narrated how he died in a post shared on LinkedIn.  Stephen said his brother who was fully vaccinated and did not have COVID-19, had a cardiac arrhythmia/heart attack in his sleep and passed on at the age of 42.
