29-year-old female police officer was shot and killed while another was seriously wounded in an exchange of gunfire during a traffic stop in Chicago over the weekend.  The officer killed Saturday night, August 7, was identified as Ella French. She is the first female cop to be fatally shot on the job in more than three decades, according to the Chicago Police Department. ‘We will never forget the true bravery she exemplified as she laid her life down to protect others,’ the department said of French in a Facebook post on Sunday evening. The department added that fellow officers will ‘grieve the loss of this hero’ and that it requested support for French’s ‘wounded partner, who is in the hospital fighting for his life’.     Two Chicago brothers have been charged in the shooting, the Chicago Police Department announced in a Monday press release. The Rachakonda Cybercrime police has arrested a 30-year-old Nigerian national for duping people on social media platforms on the pretext of providing jobs abroad. The suspect identified as Daniel Obiano, a resident of Bengaluru, who came to India on a student visa, was arrested on Monday, August 9. Between May and July this year, Obiano and his associates allegedly cheated a software engineer from Kushaiguda and his cousin to the tune of Rs 51.3 lakh (N28,233,119.24) by promising to secure jobs for them in Canada.  Following a complaint, the Cybercrime police booked a case and with the help of technical evidence nabbed him from Bengaluru.  Police seized smart phones, SIM cards and other material from the accused and also froze his bank accounts with with a sum of cash of Rs 7.1 lakh.    According to the police, the accused came into contact with other Nigerians in Bengaluru, and learnt about cyber frauds from them. Judgment day finally came for two Nigerian fraudsters, Tobilola Ibrahim Bakare and Alimi Seun Sikiru as they lost cash and properties in upscale Lekki axis of Lagos to the Federal Government following their arrest and prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.   The forfeited assets include the sums of N196, 741, 216.82 and N7, 054, 852.01 in bank accounts; two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz E500 and a Toyota Hilux 2020.   Others are; five bedroom duplex situated at Ibrahim Eleto Street, Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos, four bedroom semi-detached duplex situated at Ologolo, Jakande, Lekki, Lagos and another four bedroom semi-detached duplex in Southern View Estate, Mayor Court, Chevron Alternative Road, Lekki, Lagos.   The two vehicles are valued at N30million while the three duplexes are valued at N230million.     The fraudsters gave up the assets as they could not give satisfactory explanation of the funds and properties...

Manchester United star, Jesse Lingard is set to miss the start of the new season after testing positive for Covid-19. The England international, 28, had featured in all three of Manchester United's pre-season friendly fixtures but is not available for the final test against Everton on Saturday lunchtime.  United confirmed his absence in a statement on their club website ahead of kick-off although there is no time frame given over his possible return. "Unfortunately, Jesse Lingard is unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19," the statement read. "He is isolating in line with Government and Premier League Guidelines." Lingard joins goalkeeper Dean Henderson who is still recovering from Covid-19 after he had tested positive weeks back.
