A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former aide to ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan, has been killed by unknown gunmen in Imo state.  Gulak was shot dead on Saturday night, May 29, by unknown gunmen while returning to Abuja from Owerri, Imo state capital. The state police command is yet to comment on this development.

  At least 14 people have reportedly died when armed bandits attacked villages in Kwata ward in Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger State.   It was gathered that some of the victims, mostly women and children ran into river Kaduna and drowned while trying to escape during the attack which occurred on Friday, May 28.      "Unfortunately, many of them could not swim and drowned in the river,” an eyewitness told newsmen.    It was also gathered that seven people were shot by the bandits, four of them were confirmed dead while two others were receiving treatment at the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna   Sources from the area told Daily Trust that the 11 bodies of the victims have been recovered and buried while several others were still missing.       In all, 14 people were said to have lost their lives while the community was still counting its losses as some families said they have no...

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a member of the Nasarawa Assembly representing Nasarawa Central State Constituency, Hon. Suleiman Danbaba Ismail.    It was gathered that Danbaba was kidnapped on Saturday evening, May 29, while traveling to Jos, Plateau state for an official function.   Chairman, Nasarawa Assembly Committee on Information, Hon Mohammed Omadefu, who confirmed the development to The Nation, said the incident took place at the forest in Sanga local government area of Kaduna.   According to him, the lawmaker had passed Andaha in Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa State heading to the forest area in Sanga local government area of Kaduna when the kidnappers ambushed and whisked him away.   Omadefu, who represents Keana state constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), added that the kidnappers have made contact with the Assembly but were yet to make any demand.  ...

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Saturday recalled how he contracted the dreaded Covid-19 from a fellow governor in 2020. El-Rufai, while speaking at the seventh Ahmadu Bello Foundation lecture in Kaduna on Saturday, also said no fewer than 50,000 people would have been killed by the virus last year if a lockdown had not been imposed. The governor had, on March 26, 2020, imposed a lockdown on Kaduna, following the outbreak of the disease and partially lifted it on June 9, 2020, after 75 days. According to him, he spent 26 days in isolation, adding that even his wives ran away from him. The lecture tagged ‘COVID-19: Way forward for Northern Nigeria economy,’ was organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.   Unknown gunmen have razed down a facility occupied by the Abia State Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Umuagu, Umuahia.   Some suspects detained in the facility were also released.   A policeman who craved anonymity confirmed the development to Channels Television.   The extent of damages could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, but reports have it that a Keke Napep driver was killed in the mayhem.   This is the latest in a series of attacks targeted at government facilities in Abia state and in the south-east region generally.   The region is home to a secession movement championed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which has been proscribed by a Nigerian court.   IPOB, which is seeking to create a Biafra nation, has ordered a sit-at-home directive on Sunday in respect of south-easterners which died in Nigeria’s deadly civil war.  

  Gavin MacLeod, a veteran supporting actor best known for his role as an ever-smiling cruise ship captain on the 1970s-80s sitcom “The Love Boat,” is dead. He died on Saturday at the age of 90. His death was confirmed by his nephew Mark See. No cause of death was given. MacLeod was little known to the public until he landed the role of a wisecracking television news writer on the “Mary Tyler Moore Show” in 1970. The program was a smash hit, lasted seven seasons and is considered a classic of the American sitcom genre.

Hon. Sele-oge Tom, a half brother to the senator representing Delta South Senatorial District at the Senate, Senator James Manager, has been stabbed to death over a land dispute with a family member.    The incident happened at Ogriagbene community in Bomadi local government area of Delta state on Friday, May 28.   The deceased, who is the community’s youth leader and a former councillor was allegedly stabbed in the chest region during the fight with another family member over a small parcel of land at the community waterfront.   It was gathered that the son of the deceased in retaliation, butchered the killer of his father while also sustaining an injury to his hand.   "They fought over a family piece of land today (Friday), and after they were separated from the fight, the other one went home and came back with a dagger and stabbed Sele-oge on the rib,' a source told Vanguard.   "His son, seeing his father stabbed, ...
