  The 93rd Annual Academy Awards which celebrates the achievements in television and film over the previous year, held on Sunday night, April 25.   The award ceremony was broadcast from two locations in Los Angeles: The Dolby Theatre and Union Station. Once again, there was no host for the third time following the 2019 controversy which forced  Kevin Hart to step down from hosting the previous gig over his homophobic tweets.   David Fincher's Netflix film  Mank  led the nominations with 10 in total, while  The Father ,  Judas And The Black Messiah ,  Minari ,  Nomadland ,  South Of Metal , and  The Trial Of The Chicago 7  all followed with six nods apiece.   The big winner on the night was  Nomadland , which won three prizes in Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Frances McDormand.   Six films managed two awards, with  The Father ,  Mank ,  Sound of Metal ,  Soul...

Five suspected cultists who claimed to be students of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) have been arrested during an initiation ceremony held in a bush behind the school campus. The state police spokesperson, Sunday Abutu said the Police Rapid Response Team acted on a tip-off and burst into the initiation venue to stall the exercise. Those arrested have been identified as Adeyeye Adeyemi (29), Adeyemi Tobi (25), Moyosore Onajobi (22), Dickson Godwin (23), and Olowosaye Martins (21). Abutu said that upon sighting the police team, the suspects shot sporadically but later bowed to the superior power of the security operatives, leading to the arrest of five of them while others took to their heels and escaped. NBA star, Tristan Thompson has been accused of cheating on Khloe Kardashian again. Hip- hop podcast host, Adam22 interviewed 4 girls, who call themselves The Blackout Girls, on the No Jumper podcast. Anthony Hopkins won the Best Actor honor at Sunday's Academy Awards for his starring role in  The Father .  The 83-year-old Welsh actor made history on April 25, with his second Oscar victory, becoming the oldest star to win an Academy Award for Best Actor award after becoming the oldest Best Actor nominee when the 2021 Oscar nominations were announced in March.  He beat out fellow nominees Riz Ahmed ( Sound of Metal ), Chadwick Boseman  (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom) , Gary Oldman ( Mank ), and Steven Yeun ( Minari ). Presenter Joaquin Phoneix, who won the category last year for his performance in  Joker , accepted the award on an absent Hopkins' behalf. Anthony Hopkins won his first at the 64th Academy Awards, earning the Best Actor award for his iconic performance as an expert psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the 1992 psychological thriller  The Silence of the Lambs.

A suspected car thief was caught while attempting to steal a Toyota Camry from a church in Afaha Oku, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital on Sunday, April 24.   It was gathered that the suspect succeeded in unlocking the car with a master key and was about to abscond with it when he was caught, severely beaten and handed over to the Police.     According to an eyewitness, Oduononwi Abidiak, the car belongs to a visitor who came for a child dedication service. The Imo State government says a preliminary investigation into the attack on the country home of the state governor, Hope Uzodinma, in Oru East local government area today, April 24. may have been politically motivated. In a statement released today April 24, the state Commissioner for information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said an investigation has been launched into the attack.   The statement in part reads   “Gallant security operatives this morning repelled an attack on the Omuma country home of the governor of Imo State, Sen Hope Uzodimma. At about 9am today, Saturday, April 24th, a group of hoodlums numbering about 15 driving in a motorcade of three vehicles accompanied by a tipper loaded with used tyres, stormed the country home of the governor in Omuma, Oru East LGA and attempted to burn down the house.
