Super Eagles’ Alex Iwobi has tested positive for Covid-19 following mandatory tests taken alongside other players and staff members. The team had been subjected to coronavirus tests before leaving Nigeria and on arrival at Porto Novo on Friday.

  Belgium league goal scoring machine, Paul Onuachu scored a late winner as the Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Benin 1-0 at the Stade Charles de Gaulle on Saturday night, March 27, at the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier. Onuachu nodded home in the 93rd minute ending Benin’s eight year unbeaten home run, after scrambling for the ball during a frantic goal mouth action.   With the goal, the Super Eagles now top Group L with 11 points from five games. Benin will now have to fight for qualification next week in Sierra Leone, after Sierra Leone drew 0-0 in Lesotho earlier today.   The Super Eagles will now play Lesotho in Lagos next week, but the game will have no significance giving Rohr an opportunity to test fringe players.  

  Governor Nyesom Wike has described Grammy award-winning Afrobeat artist, Burna Boy, as the pride of the state. Governor Wike said this when Burna Boy, his parents and management team paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Saturday March 27.   “There is no Rivers person that will say he or she is not happy with the kind of pride you’ve brought us. I am very happy and I can tell you, whatever you think we can do to promote you, we will continue to do it.” he said   Wike congratulated Burna Boy for the honour he did to the people of the state all over the world explaining that when news broke that Burna Boy was the winner in the Best Global Music Album category with his Twice As Tall album, the entire state was elated.

    At least 19 people across Myanmar were shot dead by security forces on Saturday, according to emergency workers and witnesses, as the junta celebrates Armed Forces Day with a military parade in the capital Naypyidaw. AFP has independently confirmed that nine died in the central Mandalay region, three in northern Shan state, one in the ancient city of Bagan, and six in Myanmar’s commercial hub Yangon. Local media puts the toll far higher. Meanwhile, the embassies of the European Union and the United Kingdom have condemned the killing of “unarmed civilians” in Myanmar on Saturday, coinciding with the junta’s Armed Forces Day. “This 76th Myanmar Armed Forces day will stay engraved as a day of terror and dishonor. The killing of unarmed civilians, including children, are indefensible acts,” the EU embassy in Yangon said on social media. Former colonial power Britain also said that the security forces “have disgraced themselves by shooting unarmed civilians”.

  Two Players have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Benin Republic’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier against Nigeria on Saturday evening in Porto Novo, Completesports reports. The two players that contracted the deadly coronavirus are Marcellin Koukpo and Jacques Bessan. Koukpo and Bessan will play no part in Benin’s clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Stade Charles de Gaulle. Benin head coach, Michel Dussuyer, has, however, called up Yannick Aguemon and Jean Ogouchi as replacements for Koukpo and Bessan. Dussuyer’s men currently sit in the second position on the Group L table with a point behind leaders Nigeria, who have eight points after four matches. A victory for Benin against Nigeria will see them top the Group and boast their chances of qualifying for the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon.

  Tragedy struck in the early hours of Saturday, when fire gutted seven vehicles on Otedola Bridge along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.  It could not be confirmed if there were casualties, but the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident. According to Oke-Osanyintolu, said the fire has been doused by a rescue team and men of Lagos Fire Service. He said: “Mop up is being concluded at about 6a.m. Saturday and recovery effort ongoing.” Below are images from the scene of the fire incident.

Eight members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) have reportedly been kidnapped by bandits in Kaduna State. They were reportedly abducted on Friday evening, March 26 while on transit along Kachia Road in the southern part of the state. Leader of the men’s fellowship of the church in the province, Elder Adaji told Channels Television that the abducted persons were on their way to Kachia for an evangelical outreach programme before their bus was ambushed by the bandits.   It was gathered that the victims were transferred to another vehicle by the bandits who zoomed off to an unknown location, leaving behind the church bus.  Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani who confirmed the incident tweeted;    The report of the Kidnapping of RCCG members along Kachia road in Kaduna is yet another tragedy.Bandits have turned our state into their hub;B4 one kidnap is resolved,another one is unfolding.Humans h...
