A Trooper identified as Azunna Maduabuchi has been sentenced to death by firing squad for killing the adjutant of his unit, one Lieutenant Babakaka Ngorgi. The soldier who sat before a court-martial in Maiduguri, Borno State capital was arraigned for shooting Lieutenant Ngorgi in July 2020 at close range in Bama Local Government of Borno State for refusing to grant him a welfare pass. He was found guilty at the court session held at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri on Tuesday January 12.  Four other soldiers who were arraigned for manslaughter, were also sentenced to various years of imprisonment. Sergeant Sani Ishaya was sentenced to four years, while Bidemi Fabiyi got two years. Private Musa Bala and Private Abdulraheed Adamu also got one-year imprisonment each.

Three suspected thieves were burnt to death by angry mob in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. It was gathered that the suspects were lynched with car tyres at different locations in the city on Sunday night, January 10. According to eyewinesses, one of the suspects was burnt to death at Atu by Palm Street, the second one at Mayne Avenue by Inyang, while the third suspect was set ablaze at EfioAnwan Street at Anantigha, in Calabar South. "He went to steal at a different location, so he was caught and brought to Atu by Palm Street where he lived and burnt to death. He uses a master key to break into people’s houses and shops to steal. An 82-year-old farmer, Hitler Nwabudein from Akumazi Umuocha, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, has cried out over the alleged destruction of his cassava farm land and yam barn by cows belonging to suspected Fulani herdsmen.     Speaking to Ika Newspaper in Akumazi Umuocha on Monday January 11, Nwabude said that all he laboured for in the past one year have all been destroyed by cows.   "When I got to my farm, what I saw was a disaster. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, says the Federal government is considering shifting the January 18th resumption date for schools over rising COVID cases. Adamu said this while speaking at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID19.   “It (January 18th date of school reopening) is not sacrosanct. When we decided on that date it was just a target towards what we were working on. Of course, we are keeping it in view and looking at what is happening in the society and then it is supposed to be subject to constant review. Even today at the PTF meeting we looked at the rising figures and thought about if we should probably take another look at it. “On January 18th resumption, we are reviewing it, we are going to review it… tomorrow the Ministry is going to take it up.” he said
