The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended the nationwide industrial action. The association began the strike on Monday, September 7 to press home their demand which includes payments of its COVID-19 allowances, health insurance for frontline workers and others. The President of NARD, Dr Aliyu Sokumba, confirmed the suspension of the strike this evening. The suspension came after the Federal Government and the doctors reached an agreement at a meeting presided over by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja today. At the meeting, the FG made it known that it had paid N9.3bn to insurance companies for Life Group Insurance and payment of death benefits for health workers, adding that enrolment was by the submission of nominal rolls by the various health institutions, which NARD had been mandated at a previous meeting to accomplish.   Seventy-seven occupants of a 20-room building narrowly escaped death after the building they occupy collapsed in Ajegunle, a Lagos slum on September 10. The storey building located at 26, Afolabi Alasia Street, Gaskiya Road in Ijora Badia, was said to have been physically defective as it had visible cracks and showed signs of deterioration long before it collapsed from the rear today. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), there were 29 adults comprising 14 females and 15 males as well as 48 children in the premises when it collapsed and thankfully no life was lost.  

Former New York Jets wide receiver, Josh Bellamy has been arrested for his alleged role in a $24 million scheme to receive illegal loans intended for Coronavirus relief. Bellamy, 31, was charged in a federal criminal complaint with fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud. He allegedly received more than $1.2 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans for his company Drip Entertainment LLC, according to the Justice Department. The NFL star was arrested on Thursday, September 10, just two days after he was released from the Jets' physically unable to perform list due to shoulder injury.  According to the Justice Department, Bellamy spent more than $62,000 in loan money at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida. He also is accused of withdrawing more than $302,000 and using more than $104,000 for luxury goods, including purchases at Dior, Gucci, and various jewelers.   Former Chelsea midfielder, Michael Essien has joined Danish club Nordsjaelland as a player-coach for the 2020-21 season.  The 37-year-old Ghanaian footballer agreed to assist head coach Flemming Pedersen for the coming campaign. According to the club, Essien will join the staff in an assistant role and participate in training sessions alongside the players to help implement the drills and ideas. In addition, the former Lyon and Real Madrid player will contribute to video analysis and 'group evaluations' following each training session.     Essien, who will start his duties on Thursday, took to social media to share his delight as he prepares to achieve his coaching qualifications at the club.  'I am delighted to have joined FC Nordsjaelland coaching staff as part of my development towards my full coaching licence,' he said.   English actress, Diana Rigg, known for her roles on stage and in film including The Avengers and Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 82. Confirming her death, Rigg’s longtime friend and talent agent, Lionel Larner, said she died “peacefully” this morning, adding that she had been “at home in England with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time”. "She was a beautiful kind and generous human being that enhanced the lives of all that knew her as well as a great actress.   A 38-year-old man, who was arrested for allegedly planning to abduct the monarch of Isiu in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, has died in the custody of the Zone 2 police command and his family wants answers. Yemi Taiwo, a land Agent, was arrested alongside one of his friends, Femi Animashaun, by a combined team of local vigilante members in Ikorodu, popularly known as Onyabo, and some palace thugs known as Tobalase in Isiu community. In a video made available to newsmen, the two accused persons were stripped and tortured in the premises of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area.     A man arrested in April for breaking into rapper, Eminem‘s mansion outside Detroit in the US, stood over the rapper’s bed and threatened to kill him, a court has heard.   Matthew David Hughes, 27, snuck past Eminem's security around 4 a.m. and entered the home by throwing a stone through the kitchen window.   Eminem, who reportedly woke up when the alarm went off, found Hughes standing in his living room before being taken down by security.    Police were called to the scene and booked Hughes on April 6, and he remained in custody at Macomb County Jail with a $50,000 bond.
