  The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Olawatoyin Ogundipe, has been sacked by the governing council of the institution.   Ogundipe's removal was announced during the meeting of the Governing Council of the institution which held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) building in Abuja on Wednesday August 12.   Seven members of the council voted for the removal of Ogundipe as Vice-Chancellor while four others voted against the motion for his sack.  One of the members voted that he should rather be placed on suspension.   Arsenal and German goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, 28, has married long-term girlfriend Sophie Christin, 23. The couple who have been together for five years got married today, August 12, in Düsseldorf, Germany. Leno joined Arsenal in 2018 from Bayer Leverkusen and has made over 60 appearances for the Premier League club. He missed the final months of the season sidelined due to an injury but is now close to full fitness. Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, made the revelations about her mental health during a chat with with Zane Lowe on Apple Music's Beats 1 radio station today Tuesday August 11. Lady Gaga, 34, said that she has found olanzapine- a drug used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar people, very helpful.   The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested 42-year-old man, Mohammed Prince Momoh, pictured above, for posing as an aide to the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, to defraud one Benson Aniogo of $50, 000. Disclosing this to newsmen, the spokesperson of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, said Momoh attempted to defraud Aniogu after claiming he represented Gambari and needed the said amount to secure an appointment for him as a Special Adviser to the President on Oil and Gas. Afunanya said the suspect who is an indigene of Kogi state, had approached Aniogu, from Bayelsa State, telling him he was a security aide attached to Gambari. Momoh had claimed that $25, 000 would be for the Chief of Staff while the remaining would be for the “boys” who would help secure the appointment.   Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden has named Kamala Harris as his running mate for the US 2020 presidential elections. Biden's campaign announced on Tuesday August 11 that the former California attorney general Harris will be his vice-presidential pick, making her the first Black and South Asian American woman to run on a major political party's presidential ticket.   Harris, 55, who is more than 20 years younger than Biden, is a former prosecutor and has been a senator from California since 2017. UK has officially fallen into recession for the first time in 11 years due to the impact of the Corona virus pandemic. The Office for National Statistics said the UK gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have fallen by a record 20.4% in Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2020, marking the second consecutive quarterly decline after GDP fell by 2.2% in the previous quarter (Jan to Mar) 2020. This plunged the UK into its first technical recession, defined as two straight quarters of economic decline since 2009.
