  The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested 42-year-old man, Mohammed Prince Momoh, pictured above, for posing as an aide to the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, to defraud one Benson Aniogo of $50, 000. Disclosing this to newsmen, the spokesperson of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, said Momoh attempted to defraud Aniogu after claiming he represented Gambari and needed the said amount to secure an appointment for him as a Special Adviser to the President on Oil and Gas. Afunanya said the suspect who is an indigene of Kogi state, had approached Aniogu, from Bayelsa State, telling him he was a security aide attached to Gambari. Momoh had claimed that $25, 000 would be for the Chief of Staff while the remaining would be for the “boys” who would help secure the appointment.   Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden has named Kamala Harris as his running mate for the US 2020 presidential elections. Biden's campaign announced on Tuesday August 11 that the former California attorney general Harris will be his vice-presidential pick, making her the first Black and South Asian American woman to run on a major political party's presidential ticket.   Harris, 55, who is more than 20 years younger than Biden, is a former prosecutor and has been a senator from California since 2017. UK has officially fallen into recession for the first time in 11 years due to the impact of the Corona virus pandemic. The Office for National Statistics said the UK gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have fallen by a record 20.4% in Quarter 2 (Apr to June) 2020, marking the second consecutive quarterly decline after GDP fell by 2.2% in the previous quarter (Jan to Mar) 2020. This plunged the UK into its first technical recession, defined as two straight quarters of economic decline since 2009.   Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has ordered the immediate closure of Umuehilegbu Industrial Market, popularly called Bakasi Market, Aba, following a mob attack on Abia State Fire Service and the destruction of Abia State Fire Service vehicles on Monday, August 10. According to reports, the men of the state fire service failed to respond on time to control a fire incident in the market. When the Fire Service vehicles finally arrived, an angry mob launched an attack, burning the vehicles.   Six French tourists visiting a giraffe reserve in Niger were killed along with two Nigerians by suspected terrorists on Sunday, August 9.  The group were in the Koure region, which attracts tourists who want to see the last herds of giraffe in West Africa. The gunmen arrived on motorcycles and opened fire at the group in a giraffe reserve in the Kouré area, the governor of Tillabéri region, Tidjani Ibrahim, told the French news agency AFP. "They were intercepted and killed," he said, confirming that six French people and two Nigeriens died.
