  Immediate past chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, Victor Umeh, was today arrested by men of the Department of State Security DSS. According to Channels TV, Umeh was picked up in Enugu and then flown to Abuja for questioning. The reason behind his arrest is yet unknown.

Nigerians serving jail terms in the United Kingdom will soon be transferred to Nigeria to complete their period, following an agreement signed between the Federal Government and the UK government. According to a top government source, former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, will be part of those that will be repatriated to complete their jail term in Nigeria. Ibori still has more than six months to stay in prison.

By far the most hotly contested category was 'The African Broadcaster of the Year' female people’s choice category, which saw Ghana’s Peace Hyde emerge as the winner.  Voted as one of the top 50 most influential people in Ghana, Peace Hyde is the founder of a leading education and entrepreneurship brand, Aim Higher Africa for which she was recently awarded the 'Young CEO Global Leader' award. She has also been recently nominated for 'International Business Woman of the Year' and 'Business Woman of the year' categories in the prestigious Women 4 Africa award-taking place in May this year in London.

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday alleged that another Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Dr Joseph Nwobike, paid N750,000 into the account of Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court. According to the EFCC, Dr Joseph Nwobike is the second senior lawyer discovered to have paid bribe to Justice Yunusa, the first being Rickey Tarfa who allegedly paid N225,000 to the Judge. The new allegation is contained in a counter-affidavit filed in opposition to a further and better affidavit filed by Rickey Tarfa (SAN).

  Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, today paid a visit to the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School, Ikorodu, where three female students were kidnapped on Monday evening. She was accompanied by other top government functionaries and the heads of security agencies in the state. She was reportedly in the school to share in the pains of the parents, and to equally assure them that the government would leave no stone unturned until the three girls are rescued alive.   President Robert Mugabe has come up with a solution to the growing rate of rape and child abuse cases. He said that castration of rapists and child abusers is the best way to stem the vice. The Zimbabwean president reportedly made this known while speaking during his 92nd birthday celebrations at the Great Zimbabwe Monuments on Saturday, February 26.
