FIFA President Gianni Infantino has issued a formal apology for his proposed World Cup sell-off plan during a three-hour FIFA Council meeting in Zurich on Thursday, amid mounting pressure from European football administrators demanding his resignation. Infantino expressed regret for failing to consult council members prior to advancing the initiative, which sought to sell a 20 per cent commercial stake in future FIFA tournaments to private equity investors. However, the gesture failed to satisfy European football leadership. Football Association (FA) Chair Debbie Hewitt reiterated that the apology was insufficient, arguing that critical questions regarding transparency and governance remain unanswered. UEFA leaders have demanded the complete release of all documentation related to the commercial proposal, alleging that the rights were set to be transferred at a significantly discounted valuation. Pope Leo to undergo surgery after doctors find growth in his lungs

Image
Pope Leo XIV announced that he will undergo surgery to remove a "small, localized nodule" in his lung, sparking the first public health concerns of the 71-year-old pope's tenure in leading the Catholic Church. The 71-year-old announced this to pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square following his customary prayer on Sunday, October 11. He mentioned that doctors had found the lung nodule "at a very early stage and is well-localized."   A lung nodule is a small abnormal area of less than an inch that appears in the chest or abdomen during a CT scan, according to the American Cancer Society. It states that most lung nodules are not cancer and are "more often the result of old infections, scar tissue, or other causes."   The pope's operation will take place early this coming week at Rome's Gemelli hospital, where the popes typically receive medical care, and he is expected to remain in recovery for a week, the Vatican later told reporters.

Image
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky has pushed back against U.S. counterpart Donald Trump’s call for his replacement, stating that while future leadership decisions rest strictly with the Ukrainian public, national elections could be organized if Russia agrees to a 60-day total ceasefire. The exchange follows a sharp flare-up in tensions after Trump announced a waiver on sanctions for significant quantities of Russian diesel to help reduce domestic fuel costs ahead of the upcoming U.S. midterm elections. Trump subsequently criticized Ukraine’s ongoing military strikes against Russian oil refineries, asserting they exacerbate global energy pressures, and suggested that Kyiv should install a new leader capable of settling the conflict.   "First of all, with all respect to President Trump, it’s up to our society, up to our people to choose one or another leader," Zelensky told ABC news during a televised interview on Sunday. Addressing suggestions regarding democratic vote...

"the most dangerous technology humans ever invented" and argued society needs to step in before things get out of hand. "The front that we'll probably see most dramatically in the next year is cyberattacks," Gates said    "The real danger right now is not the AI's getting out of control. We need to work on that, but that's years away in terms of the big impact that might have," he said.   "It's really bad people using AI, particularly in AI where you can take out all the safeguards," he said, adding that increased restrictions were needed to prevent bad actors using AI for bioterrorism and cyberattacks.   "But right now, you're allowed to take all those safeguards out. So when ...

80% of marriages fail because of how men are raised - Nigerian lawyer says

Image
A Nigerian lawyer, Ilavbare Goldfish Rahmatulai, has stated most marriages fail due to how men are raised. She stated this in a Facebook post on Sunday, October 11, 2026, explaining that this conclusion stems from her experience counseling couples in at least 100 marriages.  While acknowledging that about 20% of severe marital damage is done by “naturally bad women”, the politician attributed the remaining 80% to irresponsible, undisciplined men who were never prepared for the weight of commitment and accountability.   “This isn't for anger or insults but for sober reflection,” she wrote.   "In the last 3 years alone, I have sat down to counsel spouses in at least 100 marriages. If there is one primary lesson those sessions have taught me (and from my own lived experience),  it’s this: most marriages fail because of how men are raised.   "Don't get me wrong—about 20% of severe marital damage is done by naturally bad women. But the remaining 80% comes down...
