  A woman was arrested and placed in handcuffs for changing the locks to her property in an attempt to remove squatters out of the $1,000,000 house she inherited from her dead parents in Queens, NY. Adele Andaloro, 47, was busted for unlawful eviction of a tenant after changing the locks last month on the $1 million home in Flushing, Queens   “It’s enraging,” the homeowner said of the squatter saga. “It’s not fair that I, as the homeowner, have to be going through this.”   Andaloro claims the ordeal erupted when she started the process of trying to sell the home last month but realized squatters had moved in and they brazenly replaced the entire front door and locks.    She said she got fed up, and went to her family’s home on 160th Street on Feb. 29 and called a locksmith to change the locks for her.   A heated argument with the people occupying the house quickly unfolded.    Squatter   The police were eventually called, and escor...

Nigeria won gold in the 4x400m Mixed Relay event at the African games currently holding in Ghana. Athlete, Omolara Ogunmakinju delivered a sensational anchor leg for Nigeria, erasing a 15-meter deficit and overtaking Botswana in the final 30 meters.   Her incredible surge secured Nigeria the gold medal in a blistering time of 3:13.26. Botswana, despite setting a new national record of 3:13.99, had to settle for silver.

Scientists say they have successfully eliminated HIV from infected cells, using Nobel Prize-winning Crispr gene-editing technology, the BBC reports.   The technology works like scissors, but at the molecular level, to cut DNA so that “bad” bits can be removed or inactivated.   The hope is to ultimately be able to rid the body entirely of the virus, although much more work is needed to check it would be safe and effective.   Existing HIV medicines can stop the virus but not eliminate it.   The University of Amsterdam team, presenting a synopsis of their early findings at a medical conference this week, stressed that their work remains merely “proof of concept” and will not become a cure for HIV any time soon.   And Dr James Dixon, stem-cell and gene-therapy technologies associate professor at the University of Nottingham, agrees, saying the full findings still require scrutiny.   “Much more work will be needed to demonstrate results in these cell...

Finland has remained the happiest country in the world for the seventh year in a row, according to the annual World Happiness Report published on Wednesday, March 20.    Fiinland's Nordic neighbours Sweden, Denmark and Iceland also retained their places in the top 10.   Rising unhappiness, especially among young people, has seen other Western countries drop down the index, with the United States and Germany dropping out of the top 20 for the first time since the report's first edition more than a decade ago.    The United States and Germany came in 23rd and 24th respectively. In turn, Costa Rica and Kuwait entered the top 20 at 12 and 13, while Eastern European countries Serbia, Bulgaria and Latvia reported the biggest increases in happiness.    Afghanistan, plagued by a humanitarian catastrophe since the Taliban regained control in 2020, remained in last place.    The survey asks people in 143 countries and territories to evaluate...

Former US President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against ABC News and George Stephanopoulos accusing them of defamation over assertions the anchor made in a combative interview.   In an interview on “This Week,” Stephanopoulos pressed Republican Representative Nancy Mace, a rape survivor, over her continued support of Trump after a jury found he sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll in 1996, awarding her $88 million for battery and defamation. Stephanopoulos asserted multiple times in the interview with Mace that Trump had “raped” Carroll. “You endorsed Donald Trump for president. Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape. How do you square your endorsement of Donald Trump with the testimony that we just saw?” Stephanopoulos asked Mace.   Vietnam's President, Vo Van Thuong, has resigned after just one year in office. The Vietnamese Communist Party accepted the resignation of President Vo Van Thuong, the government said on Wednesday, March 20. The government said in a statement that Thuong had violated party rules, adding that those "shortcomings had negatively impacted public opinion, affecting the reputation of the Party, State and him personally". The Central Party Committee, a top decision-making body in Communist Party-ruled Vietnam, approved Thuong’s resignation just about a year after his election.   The president holds a largely ceremonial role but is one of the top four political positions in the Southeast Asian nation.   The committee’s meeting preceded an extraordinary session of Vietnam’s rubber-stamping parliament scheduled on Thursday when deputies are expected to confirm the party’s decisions.   The government statement did not elaborate on Thuong’s shortcomings, but...
