A Manhattan, New York jury has determined that former president Donald Trump must pay writer E. Jean Carroll a whopping $83 million for defaming her after a different civil court jury last year found him liable for defamation, as well as sexual abuse.   Carroll, a former longtime Elle magazine advice columnist, was initially seeking $10 million in damages.  But during closing arguments on Friday, her attorney upped that to $24 million, saying the former president should pay his alleged abuse victim “at least” that much for defaming Carroll because “the only thing he cares about is money.”  Attorneys for Carroll and Trump rested their cases after closing arguments on Friday morning. Vince McMahon has resigned from his position as the Executive Chairman of TKO, the company that owns WWE, just a day after an explosive lawsuit was filed by a former WWE staffer, alleging that he sexually assaulted her on numerous occasions.   The staffer identified as Janel Grant had said she was subjected to degrading sexual acts at the hands of Vince. She alleged that McMahon defecated on her during a threesome in 2020.  Janel said while the situation left her "miserable and enraged," she didn't leave because "in her years of experience with McMahon, she knew her requests to stop would be ignored at best or used to destroy her career and reputation at worst." A Nigerian physiotherapist and PhD student, Chukwudi Ogbueche-Ifediora, has died in the United Kingdom.   His brother, @DedeUmuahia, disclosed this on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, following reports about another Nigerian, Saheed Wahab, who died 24 hours after arriving in the UK for postgraduate studies.    "Sad to say my brother is on this list @IfedioraChuddy's body is yet to be conveyed back to his home country. Like my dad said “if the country is good, tell me why we would have to go fend in another man's land??,” Dede wrote.   Late Chukwudi, was until his death, a PhD student of Glasgow Caledonian University.     

A woman known for her extreme height has died at the age of 23.   Xiao Mo of Shaoyang, China, stood 7.5ft tall and boasted more than 152,000 followers on video social media platform Douyin.   She reportedly died on January 15 after succumbing to complications from a cold she had recently caught.   Mo was popular on Douyin, China's version of TikTok, for her videos documenting her daily life, and was sometimes referred to as "Hunan's No. 1 Giantess", local media reports.   She was four centimetres taller than NBA star Yao Ming.     She is said to have had a difficult upbringing, having been abandoned by her mother and raised by her grandparents.   According to Chinese media, Mo suffered a range of underlying health conditions, such as heart and sight issues, which were connected to her extreme height.   She was reportedly cremated - and it is believed her father, who she did not have a good relationship with, is yet to collect her ashes from...

Home Alone actor, Devin Ratray's domestic assault trial has been delayed after he was hospitalized.      The 47-year-old child star, who played older brother Buzz alongside Macaulay Culkin's Kevin McCallister in the hit 1990s films, had been due to stand trial on Monday.   Ahead of the planned start date in Oklahoma, his lawyers spoke with the judge overseeing the case, as well as the district attorney's office, and said Ratray was in hospital, NBC Montana reported.     The trial has been delayed indefinitely, the news outlet said, with a pre-trial hearing set for February.   No details of why the actor was taken to hospital have been confirmed.   However, he has since been released and is back at home, US entertainment site TMZ reported, citing a family member. A father-of-five allegedly shot his wife and three adult daughters to death inside the family’s home in a Chicago suburb Sunday morning, Jan. 21, according to police.   The four women were fatally wounded in what officials described as a “domestic-related shooting” inside a home on 173rd Street in Tinley Park just before 11:30 a.m., according to Tinley Park Public Safety and ABC 7 Chicago.   A man inside the home reportedly called 911 to report the mass slaughter and was taken into custody at the scene, according to cops and a dispatcher call.   “A male subject said his wife was shot. The line disconnected.   Namibian President Hage Geingob will be undergoing treatment for cancer after routine medical checkups led to the detection of “cancerous cells”.    Namibian Presidency said on Friday, January 19, that “as part of regular annual medical examinations” the 82-year-old leader had a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy on January 8, followed by a biopsy.   “On the advice of the medical team, President Geingob will undertake appropriate medical treatment to deal with the cancerous cells,” it added.   Geingob’s office gave no more details on his diagnosis but said he would continue working.  Geingob, who has been president of the southern African nation since 2015, is due to finish his second and final term in office this year.    In 2013 Geingob underwent brain surgery.   A Pennsylvania man has been stabbed to death by his neighbour for snoring loudly.   The incident came to light last Sunday evening in Upper Moreland Township, where police responded to the home of Christopher Casey after receiving a 911 call from him reporting a stabbing. C ops discovered Casey's neighbor, Robert Wallace , about 50 feet from the house with two knife wounds in his body. Casey was stabbed in the right thigh and police found blood inside and outside the residence.   Both men were rushed to a local hospital, where Wallace died. Casey was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators were able to piece together that Wallace went over to Casey's home that night and stepped onto his porch to detach a screen from one of the windows.    The duo had gotten into a heated argument, during which Casey produced a military-style knife, plunging the blade into Wallace twice.
