  Transatlantic military alliance, NATO decided on Tuesday, July 4 to extend Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s contract by a further year, opting to stick with an experienced leader as war rages on in Ukraine rather than try to agree on a successor. Stoltenberg, a former prime minister of Norway, has been the NATO leader since 2014 and his tenure had already been extended three previous times. The decision comes as NATO's 31 members grapple with the challenge of supporting Ukraine in repelling Moscow’s invasion while avoiding a direct conflict between NATO and Russian forces.   In a tweet, Stoltenberg, 64, said he was honoured by the decision to extend his term to October 1, 2024. Gloria Carter, mother of legendary rapper Jay-Z , tied the nuptial knot with longtime partner Roxanne Wilshire in New York City on Sunday night.   The star-studded wedding was attended by Beyoncé , Kelly Rowland , Tina Knowles-Lawson, Tyler Perry , and Robin Roberts.   Former England and Liverpool player, Steven Gerrard, has been appointed as the new manager of Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq. Gerrard was confirmed on Monday, July 3 as the new manager of the Saudi Pro League club. The club confirmed the appointment in a post on its official Twitter handle, @Ettifaq_EN.   The post reads: “Where legends are found, We’re thrilled to announce Steven Gerrard is our new head coach.” Another post by the club stated that Gerrard is no stranger to silverware, adding that he is a legend who “brings a glorious history and exciting future to Ettifaq.”   Gerrard started his managerial career as a Youth coach at his former club side, Liverpool FC. He later went on to win the Scottish Premier League for Rangers; his first trophy as a manager. The Liverpool legend aged 43, also had a stint at Aston Villa before he was sacked, after securing only two wins in the club’s first 12 league matches.

  Facebook owner Meta is launching its new app to rival Twitter and it's expected to go live on Thursday, June 6. The app, which is called Threads will be linked to Instagram. Screenshots show a dashboard that looks similar to Twitter. Five people have been killed and two children wounded after a man wearing a bullet-proof vest opened fire in the US city of Philadelphia. The suspected attacker, a 40-year-old man who is now in custody, was carrying an AR-15-style rifle, a handgun, a police scanner, and ammunition. He has no known connection to the victims and, with no clear motive, the shooting appeared to be random.   Police were called to the city's south-western Kingsessing area on Monday. "When officers responded, they did identify and find some gunshot victims," Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said.
