Former world richest man, Bill Gates, on Wednesday shared his youngest daughter Phoebe’s excitement over his visit to Nigeria and the possibility of him meeting Afrobeat stars, Burna Boy and Rema. While delivering his opening address at an event in Lagos State today, June 21, Gates recalled how excited his daughter was at his coming to Nigeria and also meeting some of Nigeria's musical stars. Actress Stella Damasus has spoken up against children being placed on leashes.  In a new video she shared, the actress stated that children are not dogs and should not be placed on leashes no matter how problematic or badly behaved they are.    Stella Damasus also told mothers with badly behaved children to seek for help instead of putting their kids on leashes.  

Estonia’s parliament has passed a law legalizing same-sex marriage, becoming the first ex-Soviet country to do so. The amendments mean that same-sex couples can now adopt children. In Estonia, only a married couple can adopt a child, although single gay, lesbian and bisexual people can also petition to adopt. The amended act will go into effect from January 1, 2024. Two adults will be able to marry “regardless of their gender,” after the parliament approved amendments to the country’s Family Law Act, according to a press statement.   “Everyone should have the right to marry the person they love and want to commit to,” Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said. “With this decision we are finally stepping among other Nordic countries as well as all the rest of the democratic countries in the world where marriage equality has been granted. “This is a decision that does not take anything away from anyone but gives something important to many,” she continued. “It also shows that our ...

  A 15- year-old boy identified simply as Sallah has been killed when a storey building marked for demolition collapsed in Minna, the Niger State capital.  The incident occurred along Shiroro Road on Tuesday morning, June 20, 2023.  According to Daily Trust, the staircase of the building fell on the boy’s head.    Sallah, a student of an Islamic School in the area, was said to be resting with two of his friends when the incident happened and he died instantly while one of his friends sustained injuries. One of the residents, Jabir Ayuba, told the publication that the building which had been under construction for the past one year lacked standard specifications.   "We have been concerned since the beginning of construction of this storey building. At least 41 women have been burned, shot, or hacked to death with machetes in a massacre at a Honduras female prison after violent clashes between rival gangs sparked a fire that tore through part of the facility, police said.   The riots broke out on Tuesday, June 20.   President Xiomara Castro said Tuesday's riot at the prison in the town of Tamara, about 30 miles (50 kilometres) northwest of Honduras' capital, was 'planned by maras (street gangs) with the knowledge and acquiescence of security authorities.'     Castro pledged to take 'drastic measures,' but did not explain how inmates identified as members of the Barrio 18 gang were able to get guns and machetes into the prison, or move freely into an adjoining cell block and slaughter all the prisoners there.   Sandra Rodríguez Vargas, the assistant commissioner for Honduras' prison system, said the attackers 'removed' guards at the facility - none appeared to have been injured - ar...

Al-Ittihad have confirmed the signing of N'Golo Kante in an £86million deal. The French midfielder, 32, penned a four-year contract with Al-Ittihad and will pocket £21.5m each season.  His move to Saudi Arabia officially marks the end of Kante's time at Chelsea, having joined the club in 2016 from Leicester City.     He will link up with fellow Frenchman Karim Benzema at the club, after he joined the ranks of top players joining up with the Saudi Pro League, including Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for rivals Al-Nassr. Kante is a 2018 World Cup winner with France, as well as Premier League winner with both Leicester and Chelsea. The official and parallel market rates have converged days after the Central Bank of Nigeria released a new foreign exchange policy aimed at unifying the exchange rate windows. The Naira closed at N756 to the dollar at the investors and exporters (I&E) window on Tuesday, June 20. T he closing rate represents a 1.8 percent appreciation from the N770 recorded on Monday, June 19.  The Naira had traded at a record high of N791 before recovering to close at N663 hours after the CBN collapsed all FX windows into the I&E window last week.

A pectoral cross that former pope Benedict XVI used to wear on his chest has been reported stolen from a church in southern Germany where it was on display.   According to CNA Deutsch, CNA’s German-language partner news agency, unknown perpetrators broke open a display case on the wall of St. Oswald’s Church in the city of Traunstein during daylight hours Monday.   Police said cash was also stolen from the cash register of a literature stand in the church.     The value of the cross to the Catholic Church is “not quantifiable,” the police said. Authorities are asking anyone who saw anyone suspicious near St. Oswald’s on Monday or has any other information to come forward. The Traunstein district attorney’s office is leading the investigation.   The missing cross is one of several of its kind, Munich archdiocese spokesman Christoph Kappes said. Superstar footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo has made history by becoming the first male player to reach 200 international appearances. The 38-year-old Ronaldo was honoured by Guinness World Records before their Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday night, June 20.     He also celebrated the milestone by scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute as Portugal beat Iceland 1-0 in European Championship qualifying.
