Chelsea have reportedly made an £105million bid for Benfica star Enzo Fernandez in a deal that would make the Argentine midfielder Britain's most expensive footballer. The Blues are closing in on the potential signing after meeting Fernandez's buy-out clause. There are still negotiations ongoing in regard to the payment structure of Chelsea's bid but the west London club are now confident of getting a deal done, according to The Telegraph. A suicide bomber carried out an attack Monday, Jan. 30, inside a mosque in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, killing at least 20 people and wounding as many as 96 worshipers, officials said. The bomber detonated his suicide vest as about 150 worshipers were praying inside. The impact of the explosion collapsed the roof of the mosque, which caved in and injured many, according to Zafar Khan, a local police officer.   No one immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing, said Saddique Khan, a senior police official in Peshawar who gave the latest casualty tolls, but the Pakistani Taliban have been blamed in similar suicide attacks in the past. A survivor, 38-year-old police officer Meena Gul, said he was inside the mosque when the bomb went off. He said he doesn’t know how he survived unhurt.   Two gunmen opened fire on a group of people celebrating a birthday at the weekend in a township in South Africa, killing eight and wounding three others. The mass shooting was carried out by two attackers and occurred between 5:15 and 5:30 p.m. (1515 and 1530 GMT) on Sunday at a house in Kwazakele, Gqeberha, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said in a statement.   The birthday celebrant was among those gunned down in the mass shooting.    The gunmen fled after the attack, and no arrests have been made, the police said.   Investigations into the circumstances and possible motives for the attack were ongoing. Police have not named the victims, but confirmed that the owner of the house was among them.   The gunmen 'randomly shot at guests,' police said, adding 'eight people died while three others are still fighting for their lives in hospital. The Russian government has accused former British prime minister Boris Johnson of lying when he said President Vladimir Putin had threatened him with a missile strike during a phone call in the run-up to the invasion of Ukraine. This is coming after Johnson disclosed to the BBC for a documentary, that the Russian leader had threatened him with a missile strike that would 'only take a minute'.   'He threatened me at one point, and he said, ''Boris, I don't want to hurt you but, with a missile, it would only take a minute'' or something like that,' Johnson said.   Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov today hit back, telling reporters that Johnson had fabricated the allegations.   'What Mr. Johnson said is not true. Authorities in South Africa have arrested a retired teacher accused of preying on boys at two leading public schools in Scotland.   The 83-year-old, who was referred to as 'Edgar' by former SNP leader Ian Blackford but whose real name cannot be disclosed for legal reasons, will be brought before the city's Wynberg Magistrates Court later.  The 83-year-old, dubbed 'Jimmy Savile Mark II' is accused of crimes against boys at Edinburgh Academy and Fettes College in the 1970s. He denies the allegations.   BBC presenter Nicky Campbell, who attended the Academy in the 1970s, has led calls for him to be brought back to the UK to stand trial, with a court hearing due to take place later this year.   Edgar denies having molested pupils while teaching in Scotland, and also denied accusations of similar behaviour after moving to teach in a prestigious school in Cape Town.    He is currently subject to an order at the Scottis...

Operatives of the Western Security Network Agency, Amotekun Osun Corps, have arrested a serial child rapist, Yisa Aderibigbe. Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, in a statement at the weekend said the suspect was arrested on Thursday January 26, following a tip-off by residents after allegedly raping two minors in Osogbo, the state capital.   It was gathered that Yisa lured the two minors who were aged 5 and 7 years old to an uncompleted building in the Ayepe area of Osogbo and raped them.   Adewinmbi also stated that investigation revealed that the suspect is a notorious and serial rapist.   "Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime. I want to thank the residents of the area, who informed us about the incident. I want to appreciate them for their support,” he said in the statement.   He said the suspect had been transferred to the police for subsequent interrogation and prosecution. ...

Five persons have died and seven others injured when a mining pit collapsed on them in Rukku community in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.  The incident occurred on Saturday, January 28, 2023, when some local miners went to the mining site in the community to mine solid minerals.   It was gathered that the local miners were extracting minerals deposited some meters beneath the earth’s surface when the pit suddenly collapsed on them, thereby forcing other miners at the site to abandon their work for rescue.   According to the Nigerian Tribune, five miners who died were deep inside the pit and therefore could not be rescued, while seven others at the surface were rescued alive but with various degrees of injuries.   A local miner who was part of the rescue team revealed that the incident happened at about 7:00 p.m as those on the site were working late into the night, adding that all efforts to rescue those trapped in ...

  Annie Wersching, best known for playing FBI agent Renee Walker in the TV series 24, has died at the age of 45. Wersching died on Sunday morning, Jan. 29, in Los Angeles following a battle with cancer, her publicist told the Associated Press.   Neil Druckmann, who created the video game The Last of Us on which Wersching provided the voice for Tess, wrote on Twitter: "We just lost a beautiful artist and human being. My heart is shattered. Thoughts are with her loved ones."   Wersching appeared on dozens of television shows over the course of her two-decade career.   Her first credit was in Star Trek: Enterprise, and she would go on to have recurring roles in the seventh and eighth seasons of 24, as well as in Bosch, The Vampire Diaries, Marvel’s Runaways, The Rookie and, most recently, the second season of Star Trek: Picard as the Borg Queen.   Wershing was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, according to Deadline, and continued working.   ...

Lisa Loring, the actress who played the original Wednesday Addams character on the original "Addams Family" TV show, has died at the age of 64.   Loring was taken off life support on Saturday, Jan. 28, after suffering a "massive stroke," her friend Laurie Jacobson said in a post on Facebook announcing the death.   "It is with great sadness that I report the death of our friend, Lisa Loring," Jacobson wrote.   "4 Days ago she suffered a massive stroke brought on by smoking and high blood pressure. She had been on life support for 3 days."   Loring’s family made the decision to remove the life support on Saturday and she passed overnight.   Jacobson added: "She is embedded in the tapestry that is pop culture and in our hearts always as Wednesday Addams."   Loring was just 6 years old when she played Wednesday from 1964-1966.     She also appeared in the sitcom "The Pruitts of Southampton" and the epic CBS soap o...

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr coach has claimed the forward will 'go back to Europe' before retiring from football.  The superstar player only secured a move to the Saudi Arabian side last month in a big money deal.   Now his own coach Rudi Garcia has suggested that the five-time Ballon d'or winner will have one final stint in Europe before hanging up his boots.   According to SPORT, Al-Nassr head coach Garcia said: 'Cristiano Ronaldo is a positive addition as he helps disperse defenders.   The 58-year-old manager added: 'He's [Ronaldo] one of the best players in the world.
