Former Afghan lawmaker Mursal Nabizada and her security guard were shot dead at her home in Kabul early Sunday morning, Jan. 15, according to Kabul police. The shooting took place around 3 a.m., local time on Sunday, according to local police chief Molvi Hamidullah Khalid. Nabizada represented Kabul in Afghanistan’s parliament from 2019 until the government was overthrown by the Taliban in August 2021. She was one of the few female former lawmakers who remained in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover. Nabizada’s brother was also wounded in the attack, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said The police spokesman said an investigation to determine who carried out the attack is underway. Andrew Tate has denied being involved in human trafficking. The controversial internet personality was arrested in December 2022 in Romania alongside his brother and two assistants. Over the weekend, Romanian authorities said they have seized nearly $4 million worth of assets belonging to Tate over the past week as he and his brother are investigated on allegations of human trafficking and rape. Video published by Reuters on Saturday, Jan. 14, shows Romanian authorities at a compound emblazoned with a large "Tate" sign seizing several high-value vehicles, including a Rolls Royce, a BMW, and a Mercedes Benz.   The seizures were carried out on orders from prosecutors of the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism, according to ANABI. After his assets were seized, Tate, who is still in custody in Romania, took to Twitter to insist he is innocent of the accusations. A California man escaped death when he stepped out of his car to take a phone call moments before his car was crushed by a large rock. Mauricio Henao said he was parked on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu when he got out of his car to answer his phone. Shortly after he stepped out of the car, he heard the "loud crashes" of the rocks on the hillside behind him starting to slide, according to KTLA 5. "I was in the driver's seat, walked out, got a call, ran back inside, came out, and the car was just totaled," Henao told KTLA. "I ran out and saw my car just crushed." A four-foot boulder crushed the roof of his sedan as rocks and debris obstructed four lanes of traffic, KTLA reported. "The rock is the size of the whole hood," Henao told KTLA. UFC President Dana White has announced that Leon Edwards will defend his welterweight title against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 in the O2 Arena in London on March 18. Edwards defeated Usman for the belt at UFC 278 last August after delivering a fifth-round head kick for a knockout, setting up their upcoming trilogy fight.  The two first faced off at UFC on Fox: dos Anjos vs. Cowboy 2 in Dec. 2015. Usman won via unanimous decision. The UFC 286 co-main event will feature Justin Gaethje fighting Rafael Fiziev in a lightweight fight.  This fight will be a homecoming for the 31-year-old Edwards, who moved to England at the age of nine and fights out of Birmingham. For his professional career, he sports a 20-3 record with one no-contest. He has seven knockouts and three submission victories. Usman had won 19 straight fights before falling to Edwards. For his career, he is 20-2 with nine knockouts and one submission.

  West Ham have held further talks with Lorient over a potential £25million deal for striker Terem Moffi. The proposal is understood to be £20m with a further £5m for Moffi, a Nigeria international, who has scored 12 goals in 18 games this season.  Having arrived at the French club in 2020, the 23-year-old has racked up 59 goals in 135 games and helped them avoid a relegation scrap last season.   With the Hammers currently 18th in the Premier League table after a poor run of form, bringing in a fresh striker with experience could help them avoid the drop.   Moffi left Nigeria and moved to England to join the Buckswood Football Academy in Hastings at the age of 17. He then took his talents to Lithuania where he played for Kauno Zalgiris and Riteriai.    Moffi later had a short spell at Belgian side Kortrijk before joining Lorient in October 2020.

  A man wanted on recall to prison took to the Facebook page of the same police force hunting him to mock them. A search is underway for Michael Smith, 37, with Hampshire Police calling on him to hand himself in "at the earliest opportunity". In a Facebook post, the force told the public to look out for him. In the post, the force described him as being "white, 6ft tall and of an athletic build". The latter part caught Smith's attention. Under the post, he wrote: "Thanks for the athletic build comment see you wet wipes Tuesday."     The comment was soon removed, but he is still on the loose and being hunted.   A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: "Our advice to Michael is to hand himself in at the earliest opportunity.   "We know a lot of people have seen our wanted appeal post on Facebook and we have had great support from the public so far.   "Our officers are following up lines of enquiry to find him and we would encoura...

The 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards aired live on Sunday, January 15, and it was hosted by Chelsea Handler.    The Critics' Choice Movie Awards which is presented annually by the American-Canadian Critics Choice Association, honours the finest in cinematic achievement.   Heading into the night, A24's  Everything Everywhere All at Once  led the film nominations with 14 nods, followed by Steven Spielberg's  The Fabelmans  with 11. A 17-year-old girl jumped to her death from the top of an nine-story apartment building on Manhattan's Upper East Side, New York City. The teenager, who has yet to be identified, jumped from the eighth floor of an East 82nd Street apartment building at around 12:54 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15.     She was pronounced dead soon after, according to authorities. "I was coming out of my apartment and there were three ambulances on the block," one neighbor told The Post. "It’s horrible. It’s absolutely horrendous."     A doorman who works on the block said it was the second time in about six months that someone jumped to their death in the area.   "It’s just crazy," the doorman said.  

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has insisted Arsenal will not win the Premier League title. The Gunners are now eight points clear at the top of the table following a 2-0 victory in Sunday’s North London Derby against Tottenham, but Neville, a Manchester United icon turned pundit doesn't believe Arsenal will win the title. When asked if Mikel Arteta’s men will win the league, Neville said on his podcast on Sunday: “No. But I said Leicester wouldn’t win the league.   “They won’t win the league. Manchester City will win the league, and I think Manchester United will finish second, and I know that will annoy Arsenal fans!   “I’d rather Arsenal win the league than Man City.
