. Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has quit his role as the interim sporting director of the football club. He appointed himself interim sporting director after Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech's Stamford Bridge departures last summer, and he has since led transfer negotiations at the west London club. However, The Telegraph report he is no longer operating in the role after hiring a new recruitment team, some of whom started work this month. Boehly will continue as solely the Blues' chairman. Boehly has now transferred the responsibility to new technical director Christopher Vivell and director of global talent and transfers Paul Winstanley.  Chelsea have already completed three January signings, acquiring teenage duo David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos and securing a £35million deal for Benoit Badiashile.  

Vatican leader, Pope Francis has likened the war in Ukraine to a "crime against God and against humanity," calling once again for an end to the conflict.  Speaking during an address to the diplomatic corps in the Vatican on Monday, January 9, the Pope said that conflicts such as the war in Ukraine with its "wake of death and destruction" and "attacks on civil infrastructures" are akin to crimes "against God and humanity." "Today, I feel bound to renew my appeal for an immediate end to this senseless conflict, whose effects are felt in entire regions, also outside of Europe, due to its repercussions in the areas of energy and food production, above all in Africa and in the Middle East," he stressed. He also highlighted the impact of the war in Ukraine on the "most fragile – children, the elderly, the disabled," saying it "leaves an indelible mark on families

Adam Rich, who starred as the youngest son on the popular family drama series 'Eight Is Enough', has died at age 54. A family member revealed that the former actor had died at his home on Saturday, according to a report by gossip site, TMZ.   Law enforcement sources told TMZ that police visited Rich's home and found him dead. The family member did not reveal his cause of death, but police sources said it did not appear to be foul play.    Adam had starred in a number of films throughout his career, which began after he was cast in the late 1970s ABC sitcom, Eight Is Enough, as Nicholas Bradford, when he was just eight years old.  The series, which aired for a total of five seasons, had followed the premise of, 'a family with eight very independent children,'.    Following the show, he additionally made appearances in Code Red, which lasted for one season, and was a voice actor for Dungeons And Dragons. Portugal have announced the appointment of former Belgium boss, Roberto Martinez, as national team coach following the sacking of Fernando Santos. Santos was sacked after Portugal's disappointing World Cup campaign that saw them exit the tournament with a 1-0 defeat by Morocco in the quarter-finals.  Martinez himself had a World Cup to forget with Belgium, which failed to even make it out of the group stage.  The former Everton boss will now be hoping for a fresh start with Portugal.     “I am delighted to be able to represent one of the most talented teams in the world,” Martínez said. “I understand there are great expectations … but I also understand there is a very large team [at the federation] … and together we will achieve our goals.”   Questioned about the future of Ronaldo in the national team, Martínez said that he would contact the 37-year-old, who last month joined the Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.     “I want to...

Wales legend, Gareth Bale has confirmed his retirement from football at the age of 33.  The former Real Madrid and Tottenham winger called to an end to his illustrious career which saw him win five Champions Leagues, three LaLigas, and three Club World Cups. Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement to sign Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid. According to The Athletic, it is expected that Chelsea will pay a loan fee of £9.68million (€11million), which is below what Atletico initially wanted.  Felix has been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal but Chelsea's project is appealing to him.  The 23-year-old has struggled for consistency at Atletico this season - he has scored four goals and provided three assists in 14 La Liga appearances. In 2019 Felix joined Atletico from Benfica for £113million, which remains the fourth-highest transfer fee in football history.   Chelsea have scored just three goals in their last eight games in all competitions  So far in this transfer window Chelsea have already secured the signings of Benoit Badiashile (who cost £58million from Monaco), David Datro Fofana, and Andrey Santos.

  Rapper Young Thug's RICO trial began today, January 9, and it is expected that prosecutors will present evidence backing their case, and, controversially, that will include some of his lyrics.   The rapper is facing serious charges including conspiracy, participating in criminal street gang activity, possession of a firearm and controlled substances charges, among others.   Young Thug has already pleaded not guilty and opening arguments are scheduled to kick off at a court in Fulton County.    His defense attorney has stated that his name will be cleared through the proceedings.   Asides from being one of the several individuals who have been charged in the sweeping case, Young Thug is also a key defendant as the feds allege he's one of the head honchos of YSL (Young Slime Life), which they claim is not only a music label/brand, but a violent criminal enterprise too.   The allegation...

Embattled Canadian rapper, Tory Lanez has reportedly fired his previous attorney and hired Suge Knight's former lawyer David Kenner in his shooting case with fellow rapper, Megan Thee Stallion.   According to Law & Crime senior editor Meghann Cuniff, who has been covering the Tory Lanez trial since the beginning, Tory is expected to return to court on Tuesday with new counsel. During the trial, Tory was being represented by attorney Shawn Holley and later by George Mgdesyan. But now, according to Cuniff, Tory has a new lawyer, David Kenner, Suge Knight's former counsel. "Regarding Tory Lanez's Tuesday court date, yes, there is a date listed on the jail roster. It's not on Judge Herriford's calendar, and he's got a bunch of other stuff at the time. Thirty-nine persons were killed and more than 100 others injured when two buses crashed in a head-on collision overnight on an arterial road in Senegal’s central Kaffrine region, President Macky Sall told reporters on Sunday. Images of the incident showed the completely mangled front end of a white bus, with blood-flecked seats, personal items and a shoe strewn around the tree-lined crash site. Road accidents are common in Senegal, largely because of driver error, poor roads and decrepit vehicles, say experts, but the latest disaster has caused one of the heaviest losses of life from a single incident in recent years. Speaking to reporters, Sall corrected an earlier government statement that had put the death toll at 40, citing a miscount at the morgue.   He made the comments after visiting the crash site, on the No. 1 national highway just outside of the village of Sikilo, and speaking with some of the injured at the regional hospital in the nearby town of Kaffrine....

  Manchester United’s Brazilian import, Antony, was involved in a car crash recently. The winger, who joined Manchester United from Ajax in a £85 million deal last summer, escaped unhurt after he smashed his BMW X6 into roadworks on the M56. The incident happened just hours after he helped his club beat Wolves 1-0 at Molineux. For this reason, Antony was not involved in United’s subsequent 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday. He, however, returned to action for the 3-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup on Friday. Manchester city on Sunday, January 8, beat Chelsea 4-0 at the Etihad in the English FA Cup.   Pep Guardiola's men narrowly beat Graham Potter's side earlier in the week during their Premier League game at Stamford Bridge, but this was a dominant performance by City. The first half alone ended 3-0 against the blues. Riyad Mahrez bagged a brace, Julian Alvarez scored on his return to the starting lineup after his World Cup triumph with Argentina.   In the second half,  Phil Foden scored another goal. Sweden has said Turkey will approve its application to join the NATO military alliance, but that the Islamic nation is asking too much from Sweden who will not meet all the conditions Ankara has set for its support. Finland and Sweden signed a three-way agreement with Turkey in 2022 aimed at overcoming Ankara's objections to their membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Both countries  applied in May to join NATO in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but Turkey objected and accused the countries of harbouring militants, including from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party.
