Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Mathew Kukah has said that the killings in Plateau state are beyond herder-farmer clashes as murderers “want their own kind of Nigeria according to their ideology”.   Kukah who was commenting on the attack which claimed over 200 lives with hundreds of houses and farmlands burnt in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of the Plateau State on Christmas eve, urged the federal government to resist the agenda of the marauders and protect Nigerians. South Africa has filed an application at the International Court of Justice to begin proceedings over allegations of genocide against Israel for its war against Hamas in Gaza, the ICJ said. Over 21,507 people have been killed in Gaza since October 7, according to the enclave’s Hamas-controlled Health Ministry. Singer Paula Abdul has filed a lawsuit against one of "American Idol" executive producers, Nigel Lythgoe , alleging he sexually assaulted her multiple times while she was judging 'Idol' and “So You Think You Can Dance”.    Paula filed the lawsuit in L.A. County on Friday, December 29. She alleged that the first assault happened during "one of Idol's initial seasons" while they were on the road for regional auditions. Prosecutors in the U.S state of Nevada have pushed back on rapper, Tupac's alleged killer Keefe D's request to be released on bail ahead of his trial.    Keefe D's lawyers had asked a judge last week to release him from custody on his own recognizance before his trial, which is currently set to start in June; and if the court wouldn't allow it, his bail should be set no higher than $100k.   Prosecutors however kicked against the request, saying it is absurd.   Maine has become the second US state to disqualify Donald Trump from the 2024 primary ballot.    Democrat and Maine Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows concluded that Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2024, incited an insurrection when he spread false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election and then urged his supporters to march on the Capitol to stop lawmakers from certifying the vote.     Bellows suspended her decision until the state supreme court ruled on the matter.   The decision came after a group of former Maine lawmakers said that Trump should be disqualified based on a provision of the US Constitution that bars people from holding office if they engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” after previously swearing an oath to the United States.     The ruling, which can be appealed to a state court, applies only to the March primary election, but it could affect Trump’s status for the November general e...

An England footballer has been confirmed dead after her body was found in woodlands.   Gemma Wiseman's body was discovered by a member of the public in woodlands on December 16 near Wilkinson Road in Rackheath, near Norwich just days before Christmas day.  Wiseman leaves behind her wife Laura and daughter, 3, who are 'devastated' by her loss.  Gemma Wiseman, 33, helped guide the United Kingdom to a third-place finish at the World Deaf Football Championship in Italy back in 2016. Since her death, a GoFundMe page has been set up and has raised £7,500.   A statement posted on the site said: 'On December 16, 2023, Gemma sadly took her own life.   Russia launched a wave of missile strikes overnight on cities across Ukraine targeting homes, a maternity hospital and a shopping mall. Unknown gunmen on Thursday, December 28, attacked the convoy of Anambra-based politician, Chris Uba, at Uga junction, which is Uba’s hometown.    According to reports, Uba’s convoy ran into the gunmen at Uga junction in Aguata local government area, leading to a gun battle between the gunmen and the police.   Eyewitnesses say Uba was able to escape because his car was bulletproof, adding that it was during the shoot-out that four persons, including two policemen, were killed.   It was also learnt that the gunmen aimed to kidnap the politician, but did not succeed and it is not clear if the gunmen succeeded in kidnapping anybody in the convoy. The Islamic Republic of Iran has claimed that Hamas's October 7 attacks were in revenge for a 2020 assassination of a top Iranian general. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in 2020 called the US strike that killed Qasem Soleimani a "terrorist act" .   On Wednesday, IRGC spokesman Ramazan Sharif directly tied Hamas's October 7 killing spree to the US' slaying of Soleimani and called it "one of the revenges" Iran plans to carry out. Soleimani a top military commander of Iran, was blown up by a US drone in a strike ordered by former President Donald Trump.   Danny Masterson has been sent to a California state prison to serve his sentence for two rape convictions.  The "That ‘70s Show" actor was admitted to North Kern State Prison, authorities said Wednesday, Dec. 27.  A prison mug shot of the 47-year-old has been released. The photo shows him wearing orange prison attire, with long hair and a beard.  In June, Masterson was convicted of raping two women in his Los Angeles home in 2003. A Florida woman holding her infant son in a baby carrier was shot dead by her 14-year-old brother while trying to defuse an argument between him and a 15-year-old brother who also was armed, authorities said.   The brothers had been arguing over Christmas gifts when the 14-year-old shot their sister.  The 15-year-old brother then shot his younger brother, though not fatally, for killing their sister on Sunday, Dec. 24, in Largo, Florida, which is located in the Tampa metro area, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.     The argument over gifts started while the three siblings were Christmas shopping with their mother and the sister’s two sons, ages 6 and 11 months.
