Professor Ama Ata Aidoo, a renowned Ghanaian author, poet and playwright has passed on at age 81.   Aidoo who had an illustrious career spanning over five decades, died on Wednesday morning May 31, 2023. Kwamena Essandoh, the family head said in a statement;    “The Family of Prof. Ama Ata Aidoo with deep sorrow but in the hope of the resurrection, informs the general public that our beloved relative and writer passed away in the early hours of this morning Wednesday 31st May 2023, after a short illness. “Funeral arrangements would be announced in due course. A woman who accused US President, Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her has defected to Russia and is seeking citizenship. Tara Reade, 59, came forward during the 2020 presidential race with allegations that Biden sexually harassed and assaulted her in 1993 when he was a senator and she worked in his office.   Biden denied the allegations, and Reade reiterated them after he announced his reelection bid for 2024. Reade tweeted that she was willing 'to testify under oath in Congress if asked' – and afterwards received death threats. She recently went to Russia and on Tuesday May 30. Former Manchester United and Portugal winger,  Nani has left Melbourne Victory after just 10 league appearances, the Australian club said on Wednesday, May 31.   The 36-year-old was hailed as one of the A-League’s biggest coups in years when he signed last year. But failed to score a goal, before a serious knee injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.  “The club would like to thank Nani for his contribution and wishes him the best for the future,” Victory said in a statement.   Nani joined from Italian club Venezia, following stints in the United States, Spain, and Turkey, having left United in 2015.   Nani was capped 112 times for Portugal and won the Premier League with United.   Melbourne Victory finished the A-League season 11th in the 12-team table.

Actor Tyler Christopher who featured in “General Hospital” has been arrested by the police in Southern California.   Burbank PD said the longtime soap actor was arrested on Friday, May 26, at the airport after cops were notified of a dude snoozing on the ground near the American Airlines terminal. Officers suspected the incident might have been alcohol-related.   When the officers approached Christopher and woke him up, he told them he'd missed his flight. That apparently wasn't a good enough explanation for them as police officers ended up cuffing and booking him for public intoxication.     It was gathered that the actor displayed clear and objective signs of intoxication and he was unable to care for himself. He's been cited and released with a date to appear in court.   He was arrested for something very similar a few years ago when he got thrown in jail for passing out at the back of an Uber. The driver claimed he urinated on himself.

  The US government will appear in a federal court next Tuesday, June 6, to answer questions regarding Prince Harry's visa application after he admitted using illegal drugs. The Heritage Foundation, a Washington DC-based conservative think-tank, is suing Joe Biden's administration to force officials to release the Duke of Sussex's immigration files.   The organisation wants to know how the prince managed to get into the US after he confessed in his bombshell memoir Spare to taking cocaine, cannabis, and magic mushrooms. The Heritage Foundation has said its case will be held in front of a federal judge on June 6 at 2.30pm in courtroom 17 of the US District Court for the District of Columbia.     The news was revealed by Nile Gardner, director of the Margaret Thatcher Centre for Freedom at the Heritage Foundation, who also said it would be open to the press.   Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori are having a swell time with their photos being taken in public over their unique outfits.  The couple recently stepped out with Censori opting for a full headwrap. They were spotted out on Monday, May 29, leaving Edition Hotel in West Hollywood after noshing on the hotel's rooftop. Ye rocked a Berlin T-shirt with his signature sock/shoe combo. Bianca, on the other hand, wore a headwrap to totally cover her face with a sweatshirt and leggings.   It's not the first time Bianca has opted for a headwrap. The club hopes that over 10 players will go to help make the situation more manageable for Pochettino, who is due in England this week as he prepares for his new job. Twenty-three people have been sentenced to death, with 14 others  sentenced to life in prison by a Libyan Court for their participation in an Islamic State (ISIS) militant campaign that included beheading a group of Egyptian Christians and taking control of Sirte in 2015. According to a statement from the Libyan Attorney General’s office, five people were found not guilty, three others passed away before their cases went to trial, and one other person received a sentence of 12 years in jail, six to 10 years, one to five years, and six to three years.   Islamic State’s grew in Libya after capitalizing on the mayhem and fighting that followed a 2011 NATO-backed revolt. Brazilian playmaker, Neymar has reportedly set his heart set on joining Manchester United this summer from Paris Saint-Germain. The 31-year-old's time in Paris looks to be coming to an end with the club looking to make a fresh start after years of failure in the Champions League. The Sun is claiming that the Brazilian, who has four years remaining on his big-money contract, will only accept a move to Old Trafford as the club are looking for another forward. Neymar has a reported weekly wage of close to £1m and would no doubt have to take a huge pay cut in order to join United. A fertility doctor accused of using his sperm to impregnate patients has died after the hand-built plane he was a passenger in fell apart mid-flight and crashed.   Dr. Morris Wortman, 72, of Rochester, was traveling in the experimental aircraft which went down Sunday, May 29 in a pasture in Orleans County, killing both him and the pilot, Earl Luce Jr., authorities said. The crash of the aircraft, identified by the National Transportation Safety Board as a Wittman W-5 Buttercup airplane, remained under investigation Tuesday May 30.   Preliminary findings indicate that 'the wings of the aircraft became detached from the fuselage and fell to the ground in an orchard,' Sheriff Christopher Bourke said in a news release. The fuselage continued west for another 1,000 to 1,500 yards before crashing.  The NTSBP confirmed that it was investigating the 'crash of a Wittman W-5 Buttercup', which Luce, 70, had built in an effort to replicate the original plane constructe...

Donald Trump's Turnberry golf course in Scotland has reportedly been barred from hosting The Open until the former President sells his resort.   The former US President bought the golf course in 2014, five years after the last time it staged the storied competition.   Speaking on GB News in early May whilst visiting the course, Trump claimed that 'everybody wants to see the Open championship here,' adding that only a few 'minor adjustments' would have to made to ready the course.   As per the Telegraph, the tournament's organising body the R&A are adamant that Turnberry remains out of contention as a host. The Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi and his running mate in the February 25 poll, Datti Baba-Ahmed, attended the Presidential Election Petitions court hearing in Abuja on Tuesday, May 30. Though Obi had attended a number of proceedings in the past few weeks, Datti-Ahmed attended court proceedings for the first time on Tuesday, a day after the inauguration of the candidate, Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s President.   The Labour Party is expected to call just one witness today. The party had previously said it would call 50 witnesses to testify against the victory of  Tinubu, and will need seven weeks to get this done.  

Thousands of worshipers have started flocking to a Catholic nun to witness her body after it was recovered from her Missouri grave without any signs of decay despite being buried since 2019.    Faithful Catholics have been pictured and filmed in a long queue rushing to Gower - about 40 miles north of Kansas City - to see the unblemished body of sister Wilhelmina Lancaster, who died in May 2019 at the age of 95, with some calling it a miraculous sign of sainthood.    The abbey which previously would receive no more than 20 visitors per day is now seeing about 1,000 visitors on a daily basis, according to Ashlie Hand, a spokesperson with the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.   'As of Tuesday, they were seeing about 1,000 visitors a day. I think now, it's probably well above that. Former Barcelona right-back, Douglas Pereira has been arrested after shooting a gun into the air in a car park in Brazil.   Brazilian publication Globo Esporte reported that the 32-year-old is facing trial after the incident which allegedly took place on April 21 in the country's capital of Brasilia.   It is claimed that the former Brazil U20 international had been drinking on a boat at Lake Paranoa which he left after falling out with the other people on it.   According to Football Espana, Douglas then walked through a forested area with an unauthorised gun and came to the sports campus of Club Esportives Sul.   Security at the facility are said to have asked him to leave the area after he confronted several people 'aggressively' - before he fired the gun into the air in a car park.   The player is then said to have hid the pistol in a nearby bush and was arrested by police - though the gun was not located.   Douglas was reportedly detained and re...

Germany has fallen into recession after a high inflation rate took a bigger toll on the country’s economy than originally estimated.  Output in Europe’s largest economy dropped 0.3% in the first three months of the year, following a 0.5% contraction at the end of 2022, official data showed on Thursday, May 25.    The Federal Statistical Office downgraded its previous estimate of zero growth in gross domestic product compared with the previous quarter. A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of declining output.   T he figures are a blow to the German government, which last month boldly doubled its growth forecast for this year after a feared winter energy crunch failed to materialise.   American rapper, Fetty Wap has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in a large-scale drug trafficking scheme that saw narcotics shipped from the West Coast and sold in New Jersey and Long Island.   The 31-year-old rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was sentenced in federal court in Central Islip, New York, for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.   Maxwell, who is from Paterson, New Jersey, was initially arrested in October 2021 on charges that he allegedly participated in a drug smuggling conspiracy involving heroin, fentanyl and other drugs.    He pleaded guilty in August to a top charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances pertaining to cocaine.
