Manchester City new signing, Erling Haaland has been named Premier League Player of the Month for August.    The Norwegian arrived at Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund for £51million this summer, and has scored nine goals in his opening five games across August before making that 10 in six in early September.   Haaland, 22, bagged a brace on his league debut against West Ham United and scored once at Newcastle United before hitting consecutive hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest as City won four of their opening five games.   The Norwegian beat competition from Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard as well as Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic among others to win the award.

Serena Williams has paid tribute to fellow tennis great, Roger Federer, after he announced his retirement one month following her retirement announcement.   Federer announced on Thursday, September 15, that he will retire from the sport at the age of 41, with the last tournament of his illustrious career to be the Laver Cup in London, scheduled to be held at the O2 Arena next weekend.   Serena also brought her career to an end this month as she played her final singles match at the US Open.   With two of the tennis' biggest stars in both the men's and women's game retiring, Williams paid tribute to her fellow champion.   Taking to Instagram, Serena wrote: "I wanted to find the perfect way to say this, as you so eloquently put this game to rest - perfectly done, just like your career.    "'I have always looked up to you and admired you. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has arrested four suspected armed hunters who attacked its taskforce in Abuja.    The men who were bearing guns and arrows attacked the taskforce team at Sabo Lugbe, along the international Airport Road on Thursday, September 15, to prevent them from enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycle riders.   The suspects were also alleged to have obstructed the operations of the task force last week with guns and arrows, preventing the team from impounding motorcycles and arresting its riders for violating route restrictions.   On Thursday, they mobilised again with guns, but were demobilised by a well-armed large number of the Joint Task Force of both the Police, Army, and other security agencies, who seized two locally made guns from the hunters and consequently impounded 72 motorcycles.   Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to FCT Minister, Ikharo Attah, explaine...

Airstrikes carried out by the Nigerian military has killed three commanders of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP).  Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region said the terrorist group's sniper, Amir Bashir, known as Iblis (devil) and one of the commanders were killed in the raid. The strikes coordinated by the Air Task Force (ATF), Operation Hadin Kai, targeting the terrorists’ hideouts in Rino, Jibularam and Kangarwa in Marte and Kukawa local government areas was Launched in the early hours of September 14. Cardi B has spoken out on Instagram after she was given 15 days of community service as punishment after she took a plea deal.   The rapper was in court on Thursday September 15, where she agreed to plead guilty to 3rd-degree assault and reckless endangerment, both misdemeanors. The deal means she avoids a trial and a possible jail sentence.   As part of the plea, there's also an order of protection that requires Cardi to stay away from the women she ordered an attack on for 3 years.   "Everyday the sun won't shine, but that's why I love tomorrow," she wrote on Instagram alongside photos of her in court.     Recall that Cardi was accused of ordering an attack on 2 strip club bartenders, Jade and Baddie Gi, who are sisters, in August 2018   Cardi allegedly thought Jade had slept with her man, Offset, hence the attack.

Minister of youth and sports development, Sunday Dare has described the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as a league on its deathbed.   Speaking at the ministerial briefing at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Thursday September 15, Dare noted that the league is currently in a state of disarray, with coaches, players and referees owed salaries and allowances.   He also said they've made efforts to speak to those in-charge but never got any response.
